    Radiographer (Band 6) - University Hospital Lewisham & Queen Elizabeth, Woolwich

    We are looking for keen enthusiastic radiographers who wish to take on a more senior role within Radiology, and who wish to make a difference to patient care and overall imaging services.

    Our aim is to provide the best possible healthcare for our local communities, working collaboratively with all our partners.

    Radiographers will be expected to rotate through all general areas including the Emergency Department, CT scan, Fluoroscopy and all the plain film imaging modalities and you will be expected to undertake overnight duties including undertaking CT Trauma scans and general cover, and weekend/bank holiday working on a rostered basis.

    Current experience of undertaking CT scanning and other more complex procedures both in and out of hours would be advantageous.

    The successful candidate must have at least 12 months post qualification experience as a Band 5 radiographer and will be expected to undertake training in order to join the out of hours rosters if not already proficient.

    In addition, the candidate must be able to demonstrate good communication skills, good radiographic, professional standards and multi-disciplinary team working, which will include supporting student radiographers in training. Candidates will be required to demonstrate an up to date HCPC registration.

    Main duties of the job The successful candidate will be required to support the managers and area leads with delivery of an efficient and effective service within the current challenging healthcare environment.     Participation in the departmental 7 day working week is essential.

The Diagnostic Imaging department based across 2 sites, Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth with all General rooms equipped with DR, 4 GE CT scanners Revolutions

    Job description Job responsibilities Role

    To be responsible for carrying out radiographic imaging to a high standard and in a professional manner, working to departmental guidelines whilst being accountable for own actions.

    The post holder will be required to carry out radiographic duties in all areas including theatres, A& E both adults and paediatrics, on wards especially those with high dependency patients and the critically ill.

    • To independently undertake diagnostic radiology procedures maintaining high professional standards of technical competence and ensuring standards of essence of care at all times.
    • To assess and adapt techniques and protocols following assessment for each procedure.
    • To take responsibility for the care of the patient whilst undertaking the procedure. This includes manual handling.
    • Offer an opinion on images obtained to relevant medical personnel
    • To supervise and provide clinical assistance to assistant practitioners
    • To provide team leadership where required.
    • Provide clinical support for other radiographers where needed.
    • To ensure the protection and safety of all patients and staff against the dangers of radiation.
    • To monitor and evaluate Ionising Radiation Regulations 99 and IR(ME)R 2000 and ensure patients procedures are performed with due consideration of these regulations.
    • To comply with Health & Safety and COSHH regulations.
    • To ensure patient confidentiality is observed at all times and observe the requirements of the data protection act and freedom of information act.
    • To participate in the departments out of hours on-call rota.
    • To observe all local rules and the Trusts employment policies and procedures.
    • To undertake regular QA tests to identify and report equipment faults or inaccuracies
    • Ensure the safe use of specialist radiology equipment. To report equipment failures immediately.

    • To participate in the induction and training of new staff, assistant practitioners and student radiographers.
    To attend compulsory staff training courses
    • To provide assistance and be involved in departmental projects and audits
    • To be actively involved in departmental quality groups and pro-active in the sharing of good practice.
    • To take every opportunity to gain knowledge to achieve competency in an area of speciality within the Radiology department.
    • To have a basic knowledge of CT

    • To offer advice and guidance to patients, carers and other health professionals on radiology procedures and radiation issues taking due consideration of patients conditions.
    • To inform and promote Radiology guidelines and departmental policies to other healthcare professionals
    • To obtain informed consent from patients prior to undertaking procedures as appropriate to individual circumstances
    • To ensure accurate recording on the Radiology Information System patient information and examination details including confirmation of examination and consumables used and dose received by patient.
    • To promote good relations with other directorates and hospitals
    • To attend any meetings as required by the Head of Imaging or Radiology Services Manager.
