- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, and financial statement analysis.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger entries, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and organizational policies.
- Review and reconcile bank statements, credit card transactions, and other financial records to ensure accuracy and completeness for multiple foreign Panthera entities.
- Liaise regularly with regional accountants to ensure compliant timeliness, processes and coding with donor requirements.
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and reconciliations as needed.
- Preparing and reviewing monthly & quarterly US Government grant financial reports and handling recodes.
- Reviewing monthly expense reports of the project teams; first approver in expense reporting software.
- Track project spending and manage tracking sheet and variance monitoring for grant budgets.
- Liaise closely with regional Finance and Human Resource teams to project, track, analyse and adjust (e.g., cost of living adjustments) salary and benefits expenditures affecting project budgets.
- Review monthly/quarterly sub-award expense reports, time sheets and post subaward expense journals to accounting system.
- Provide regional budgets during the Panthera institutional budgeting process.
- Prepare budgets and budget modifications for applications for funding opportunities.
- Assist with special projects and ad-hoc analysis as assigned by the supervisor.
- Assist with process improvements.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field preferred but not required.
- 1-2 years of experience in accounting or finance role preferred; recent graduates with relevant internships or coursework will also be considered.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, including GAAP.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting software (e.g., NetSuite).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with colleagues at all levels and departments of the organization, and across multiple time zones.
- Familiarity with US Code of Federal Regulations or experience querying the eCFR is a plus.
- Knowledge of non-profit accounting principles and practices is a plus.
