    Job overview

    We are looking to recruit a senior nurse with a strong cancer background for the Head of Nursing and Quality role who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary services to our patients.

    The successful candidate will take specific responsibility for patient safety, quality and patient experience within the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.

    You will play a key role in supporting the implementation of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) to promote learning and improvement within a just culture.

    Main duties of the job

    The Head of Nursing and Quality will have an extensive cancer background and will be expected to demonstrate strong professional clinical leadership and provide specialist and strategic quality and clinical advice across the Cancer Division.

    The post holder will be a key member of the Senior Management Team and will support the team to continually improve patient care and experience and to deliver National and Trust initiatives.

    The Head of Nursing and Quality will provide forward-thinking clinical and professional leadership to nursing staff at all levels within the Division, ensuring that nursing resource is managed effectively.

    Working within the trust's governance framework, the post holder will lead with credibility and authority and be revered for high standards of patient care to ensure quality and safety.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

    ENHT is seeking to maintain and expand the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre staff as we move to an exciting new future.

    We welcome applications from those who would relish the opportunity to be part of new and developing cancer service, building on the excellent reputation, research and patient experience the Cancer Centre already delivers.

    In addition, you will receive a High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of your basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £4,314 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum pro rata.

    Qualifications

    Essential criteria

    • Registered Nurse
    • Degree or equivalent relevant experience
    • Master's level qualification /working towards or equivalent experience
    • Cancer nursing qualification
    • Leadership/management qualification
    • Evidence of continuous professional development

    Desirable criteria

    • Mentoring/coaching qualification

    Previous Experience

    Essential criteria

    • Extensive Senior Nursing/Matron experience within the cancer specialty
    • Experience of managing people
    • Experience of managing change and associated behaviours
    • Experience of developing policies and procedures
    • Evidence of outcomes from application of professional leadership
    • Evidence of clinical leadership regarding multiple clinical professions
    • Evidence of managing people and teams
    • Evidence of chairing and managing meetings
    • Experience in managing staff rosters

    Desirable criteria

    • Experience of managing resources including financial resources
    • Proven record of leading change and innovation

    Skills

    Essential criteria

    • Proven record of accomplishment of achieving objectives
    • Excellent organisational and leadership skills
    • Excellent clinical and clinical leadership skills
    • Ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences, verbally and in written reports

    Knowledge

    Essential criteria

    • Knowledge of developments in Cancer and Palliative Care practice
    • Knowledge of DoH Policies and professional guidelines in Palliative care and Cancer Care
    • Knowledge and experience of change management
    • Knowledge and experience of clinical governance and risk management issues
