    Default job background
    Fixed Term
    Description

The Halim lab () is recruiting a highly talented and motivated scientist to join a vibrant and collaborative tissue immunology group within the University of Cambridge, CRUK Cambridge Institute. We are interested in understanding the role of innate lymphoid cells in regulating the immune response in tissue-homeostasis, inflammatory diseases and cancer. We focus on the ability of ILC to regulate both innate and adaptive immunity (Halim TYF et al. Immunity 2018, Schuijs MJ et al. Nature Immunology 2020, Stockis J et al. Immunology Our long-term goal is to reveal novel fundamental immunological mechanisms related to ILC biology and immune regulation, and therapeutically modulate these in cancer and chronic inflammation.

As a postdoctoral researcher in the group, you will drive research projects that utilize novel in vivo and in vitro models to assess the function of immune cells in different disease models, as well as study signalling pathways and downstream mechanisms using cutting-edge approaches. You will join a collaborative and highly motivated team of researchers in a top ranked university and research institute. Our group is further supported by world-leading core facilities () which researchers are encouraged to utilize to their fullest potential.

Candidates should have, or be proficient in most of these:

  • Mouse experimental procedures (existing UK PIL highly valued), tissue processing, isolation and phenotyping/manipulation of cells using:
  • Advanced flow cytometry
  • Immunological assays, IF microscopy, and cell culture
  • Molecular biological techniques (i.e. cloning, viral vector design/production, genome editing strategies)
  • Bioinformatic analysis (i.e. experimental design of bulk or single cell transcriptomic experiments, generation of high quality datasets, independent or collaborative analysis of data)
  • Demonstrated creative and independent work in your area of expertise (pre-print, or peer reviewed)
  • Candidates should have experience and/or a strong understanding in:

  • Mouse models of inflammatory airway disease.
  • Training and supervising junior lab members in related research projects.
  • The following additional skills are highly valued:

  • High-parameter IF or mass-spec imaging, spatial transcriptomics, and associated image analysis.
  • Immunometabolism experience (i.e. metabolomic profiling, Seahorse analysis)
  • Applicants who wish to be considered must display the ability to undertake project management, method development, data collection and analysis. You must have excellent communication and organizational skills, the ability to develop innovative experimental approaches to answer research questions and thrive both in independent research and working collaboratively as part of a team. You will be supported in developing your career ambitions, including attending training courses and writing grants or fellowships; many previous postdoctoral researchers in the Halim lab successfully secured prestigious awards and fellowships (EMBO, Marie Currie, etc.).

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 4 years in the first instance.
