Senior Regulatory Support Manager - Warwick, United Kingdom - National Grid
Description
About us
National Grid touches the lives of almost everyone, with an energy network that stretches across the Atlantic. We're an international team, and our work underpins the lives of millions of people. Feet forwards, head up, and eyes bright, we're working hard to create value for people today and shape the future of energy tomorrow.
In the UK, we don't generate or sell energy we join the dots to get energy from A to B. From making a cup of tea in the morning, to keeping the lights on in hospitals, our electricity network puts power in the hands of people. Without it, the world as we know it would grind to a halt. The world of energy is changing beyond recognition. Working at National Grid, you won't just be touching the lives of almost everyone in the UK you'll be shaping the way we use and consume energy for generations to come.
About the role
In this role you will lead and support senior experts within the wider Consumer Value and Regulatory Support team. You will provide guidance and direction to ensure we deliver good consumer outcomes and regulatory submissions. You will directly manage a large team of around 9 individuals, plus contractors at times of peak workload, with potential for a small number of indirect reports.
You will be responsible for supporting the team who act as the voice of the consumer within our project delivery teams, each of which is responsible for delivering a capital project of between £100m and many £bns in value. Most of these experts will report to you, but you will also help manage the workload across your team and your colleagues. You will lead and manage your team to ensure they can help each project team to understand how to maximise the value they deliver to end customers. Your team would also be accountable for managing the project specific external interfaces for NGET, primary with our regulator Ofgem, but also working to support relationships with other stakeholders such as Distribution Network Operators and other Transmission Owners.
Your team will be responsible for working with our major project delivery units to secure allowances to progress business critical projects through ensuring successful funding submissions can be. You will ensure that your team is supported and competent to get us ready for regulatory submissions and to be the first assurance that the funding submissions we draft are of high quality, robust, well-evidenced and comply with regulatory requirements. You would also manage and support a team of submission coordinators who will spend their time embedded within project teams for long-periods (up to around a year) to help them deliver their key regulatory submissions to Ofgem. The successful delivery of the portfolio of projects in the next few years is critical to achieving National Grid's transition to Net Zero and the team will be key to this.
As part of the wider Commercial, Regulation and Supply Chain team, your team will provide expert advice to help NGET project teams understand regulatory obligations and risks and support the wider team to advise on the relationships between regulatory, commercial and supply chain issues. You will take the lead on regulatory issues and requirements for your projects, including proactively highlight regulatory risks to projects, to ensure better outcomes for NGET and our stakeholders.
As part of our hybrid and flexible working approach, this permanent role offers a mix of office working and home working. Our current largest office site is in Warwick, though we are open to applications based at our other sites. We are also happy to discuss flexibility in working hours/times.
About you
You will have:
It is not essential that you have a background in UK Transmission, nor the drivers of consumer value within UK Transmission. You will also be educated to degree level in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Economics, Business or related discipline or have an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience and have relevant industry experience. The ideal candidate would also have experience managing of contractors.
