    Job summary

    This is an exciting opportunity for a Mental health Occupational Therapist with a dedicated/protected OT specific caseload for of your role and as an OT care coordinator.

    We are looking to recruit an EIP Community Occupational Therapist who is a motivated and enthusiastic Mental Health Practitioner with proven abilities to work positively with service user, carers and family.

    Redbridge EIP is a multi-disciplinary service, well resourced to ensure that we provide NICE guidelines for intervention for psychosis with a good psychology team, IPS worker, Peer support worker, STR worker and physical health assistant. We provide a range of specialist interventions within an integrated person centred approach to people aged 14-65 resident in the Borough of Redbridge experiencing or suspected of experiencing a first episode of psychosis. We are currently at Level 3 on the National Audit for psychosis (NCAP), looking to achieve level 4 in this coming year.

    Redbridge council is situated in the eastern edge of London and provides services to over 300,000 residents. Redbridge is very diverse with over 50 nationalities. 84% of residents are either white or Asian but over 100 languages are spoken throughout the area. Redbridge is one of London's greenest Boroughs with more than 35 parks, playgrounds and other open spaces to enjoy.

    Main duties of the job

    The main responsibilities of the post:

    To provide an integrated recovery centred clinical service to people aged 14-65 living in the Borough of Redbridge, who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis, in accordance with the new waiting time guidelines NICE Standard 80.

    To assess and act as care coordinator to clients referred to the service, in accordance with Care programme Approach (CPA) policy. Undertake comprehensive assessment of health and social needs together with the service users implement a plan of care and intervention to meet these needs, ensuring regular reviews are in place for evaluation of the care plan.

    To support Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions for a service users with REIP as well as developing and overseeing the Team groups programme, working closely with our STR and Peer support workers.

    To ensure carers and family are included and supported and in care planning. To participate in carer focused education, family intervention approaches, support programmes and carers groups providing information about relevant legislation and carer's rights.

    To facilitate and implement the Trust and Local Authority requirements in relation to safeguarding children and guidance legislation within the Care Act 2014. To adhere to the requirements of the Safeguarding Adults policy.

Starting with NELFT NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex. High Cost Area Supplement - London This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum pro rata).

  • Foster recovery through empowerment of service users and carers by involving the service user and carer in the planning of their care establishing and maintaining consistent supportive relationships, which encourage increased self-determination and responsibility for service users and their care.
  • Offer a range of evidence based interventions and risk management approaches enabling the service user and carers to reduce and manage symptoms and high-risk behaviour.
  • Be proactive, innovative and creative in delivering care, enabling the facilitation of service users recovery.
  • Engage service users and carers in relapse prevention and crisis plans, providing intervention that maximizes the service users ability to resolve crisis and prevent hospitalization.
  • Facilitate early discharge from both inpatient and Home Treatment Team by providing regular, formal reviews.
  • Deliver a flexible and responsive service through practice that is dictated by service users/carers needs.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with members of the multi-disciplinary team and in partnership with other agencies.
  • Deliver high quality care and provide solutions to service users with severe and enduring mental health problems.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Qualified /registered Occupational therapist
  • Evidence of post-registration Training /qualification and continued CPD
  • Desirable

  • CBTp Diploma or equivalent and or Family Intervention/Therapy Certificate or equivalent
  • Experience

    Essential

  • To have significant experience working with adults experiencing psychosis
  • To have proven and significant experience of working with people with complex, acute mental health needs.
  • To have experience of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating aspects of care.
  • To have significant experience working with families and carers
  • To have significant experience as a caseworker and CPA Care Co-ordinator.
  • Experience of using MOHO and OT ADL assessments.

  • To have experience in group work.
  • Knowledge

    Essential

  • Understanding of government legislation and policy guidance pertaining to EIP and Mental Health NICE concordant interventions
  • Excellent working knowledge of care programme approach (CPA)
  • To have a working knowledge of the requirements of specific OT assessment
  • Knowledge and understanding of Adult Safeguarding policy and procedures
  • Be knowledgeable, demonstrate competency and work within the safeguarding children framework on best practice with particular regard to the voice of the child and the London Child protection procedures

  • Ability to assess, plan and implement programmes of care with Service User and Carers involvement
  • Clinical risk assessment and management skills
  • Ability to make complex decisions under pressure and demonstrate stress and crisis management skills
