Head of Asset Management and Development - London, United Kingdom - Octopus Energy Group

    Default job background
    Description

Octopus Energy Generation (OEGEN) is a leader in sourcing, investing in, and managing a wide range of utility-scale renewable energy assets.

As we continue to expand our investment base, we are dedicated to building a diverse team that reflects the communities we serve.

Since our entry into the renewables market in 2010, OEGEN has achieved remarkable milestones, becoming a leading investor in onshore wind across mainland Europe, the largest investor of solar power in Europe, and recently venturing into offshore wind projects.

Currently, we manage a global portfolio of over £6 billion in renewable energy assets. Our operational portfolio consists of more than three hundred large-scale energy-generating companies. We take pride in our wind farms, solar power plants, and upcoming projects in energy storage and hydrogen. To support our ambitious growth plans and long-term ownership of energy assets, we are expanding our team.

The Development Portfolio Management Team at Octopus Energy Generation (OEGEN) leads the post-deal management of OEGEN's global diverse and dynamic portfolio of renewable energy developers and development pipelines.

The team ensures that operational and commercial activities align with the objectives of each investment case and the broader goals of OEGEN's funds.

The team maintains compliance with governance standards, and optimises commercial performance.

The team is pivotal in cultivating strong relationships with developers, funds, and other key stakeholders, thereby facilitating the successful implementation of OEGEN's investment strategies in the project development sector.

The Development Portfolio Director is pivotal in managing OEGEN's commercial relationships with development partners under equity investments and joint development agreements.

This role is key to establishing and overseeing governance structures that enhance the operational efficacy and strategic alignment of our development counterparts, ensuring the delivery of proprietary deal flow to support OEGEN's investment strategy.

    What you'll do
Directly manage the portfolio of renewable energy developers and development pipelines following deal closures.

Ensure that operational and commercial aspects of investments align with the specific objectives of each project and the broader goals of OEGEN's funds.

Oversee and enhance the commercial management portfolio companies to meet all contractual obligations and achieve investment objectives.
Monitor and financial performance of investments to optimise returns and ensure capital efficiency.
Maintain and enhance governance frameworks to ensure compliance with internal standards and external regulatory requirements.
Work closely with development partners to ensure that governance practices are well-managed and operational processes are optimised.
Cultivate strong and productive relationships with developers, funds, and other stakeholders to facilitate the successful delivery of objectives.
Coordinate effective communication strategies to ensure that all stakeholders are aligned and collaborative in achieving investment goals.
Conduct regular assessments of investment performance against objectives, identifying and addressing variances.
Produce reporting to support stakeholder oversight and inform strategic decisions and operational adjustments.

Lead and motivate a team dedicated to the commercial management of the investment portfolio, fostering a culture of empowerment and continuous improvement.

Promote professional development and upskilling to ensure team capabilities align with industry standards and project demands.
Identify and mitigate risks related to the performance of the portfolio, enhancing investment resilience and performance.
Implement risk management strategies to safeguard investment values and align with OEGEN's risk appetite.
    What you'll need
Extensive experience in strategic management and leadership within the renewable energy sector.
Exceptional commercial acumen with a proven track record in investment portfolio management.
Superior communication and interpersonal skills, adept at engaging and influencing a diverse stakeholder group.
Strong understanding of the global energy infrastructure markets, regulatory environments, and the unique challenges of energy project development.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, or related fields.
Proficient in financial modelling, project management, and data and reporting.
Demonstrated leadership abilities with skills in strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making.
Strong regulatory, governance, and compliance knowledge, with experience in managing complex operations across various geographical locations.
