Postdoctoral Research Assistant - Oxford, United Kingdom - University of Oxford

    Default job background
    fixed-term
    Description
    We are seeking
a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join Professor Powrie's Mucosal Immunology Group. Professor Powrie is the Director of the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology.

You will join a dynamic and successful group studying immune regulation in the intestine and how this breaks down in inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer.

The aim of the project is to investigate the mechanisms by which intestinal bacteria can promote inflammation and development of cancer, and investigate how bacterial interactions within the host can then alter gut immune responses.

The project will use in vivo models of inflammatory disease and cancer under normal and gnotobiotic conditions, and will also involve microbiological culture.

You will be responsible for the development of the research project and plan new studies with other team members and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all findings, whilst making these available to other members of the team.

You will actively participate in meetings at group, institute and departmental level, maintain up-to-date awareness of relevant publications in the area of research and share responsibility for preparing and submitting publications.

You will hold a PhD degree (or near completion) or equivalent in Microbiology or related subject, have experience of and proven research skills in intestinal cellular and molecular immunology, including the use of intestinal organoids.

Experience of working with anaerobic bacterial cell culture and bioinformatics experience analysing large data sets such as 16S data in microbiome research, and fluency in R, including building and optimising pipelines is essential.

Experience in flow cytometry analysis software is desierble. This is a fixed-term, full time position until 31/07/2026.

Due to the nature of the research at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, this job will require additional security pre-employment checks:

    • A satisfactory basic Disclosure and Barring Service check
    • University security screening (eg identity checks)
