    Specialist Speech and Language Therapist Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust

    An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to work within the LD CAMHS service for Durham and Darlington. The post is split between two bases - The Acley Centre in Newton Aycliffe and North End house in Durham.

    Main duties of the job

    The successful applicant will be expected to carry out clinical work as part of the multi-disciplinary team, providing specialist assessment to children and young people within the Learning Disability's CAMHS service.

    Job responsibilities

    Person Specification Qualifications

    • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
    • HCPC registered
    • Post-graduate training in specialist areas relevant to the role e.g. Intensive Interaction, Talking Mats, Dysphagia, Autism etc. (or willingness to achieve within agreed timescale)
    • Clinical Supervisory Skills course
    • Trust training in Appraisal and Recruitment (within an agreed timescale)
    • o Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
    • Membership of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.

    Skills

    • Communicate complex and sensitive information in a manner appropriate to the individual and situation.
    • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
    • Motivate and work positively and constructively with other members of the team.
    • Provide effective teaching, training and clinical supervision.
    • Provide specific SLT assessment as part of an MDT and communicate findings effectively

    Experience

    • Experience working with children with neurodevelopmental difference
    • Experience supervising staff
    • Experience of running group sessions
    • Supervising SLT students
    • Participation in quality improvement events
    • Experience in working with children with mental health needs
    • Experience contributing to neurodevelopmental assessment

    Knowledge

    • National Guidance relating to neurodevelopmental assessment in children
    • Significant knowledge of the needs and challenges for Children & Young People with neurodifference, their families and services
    • Knowledge of communication presentations associated with different neurodevelopmental profiles
