    Job Title:
    Data Scientist

    Caterpillar's Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives.

    The Order to Delivery (OTD) Digital Solutions team is part of the Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) and supports the Medium Engines OTD organisation, which consists of; We are seeking a Data Scientist to join the team and grow unique skills in a rapidly developing team and specialism in the Data and Analytics domain.

    The purpose of the OTD Digital Solutions team is to drive the creation, use and adoption of Digital tools within the OTD function to help automate processes, create value for the customer, improve operational efficiency and achieve Profitable Growth

    The OTD Digital Solutions team combines a unique blend of Data Analytics, Data Warehousing and Application development with functional skill and knowledge to deliver tailored Digital Solutions for the end user.

    The team also play an active role in shaping and supporting IPSD Medium's Data Strategy and related projects.

    Design, develop and deploy frequently used analytics and applications to OTD teams through Power BI Dashboards, PowerApps and other digital tools.

    Support the manufacturing facility in Peterborough with real time data to track the flow of engines within the factory to help drive velocity and issue identification.

    Access and navigate around our data infrastructure to use data to solve business problems.

    Apply data science techniques on large datasets, deriving hidden insights, knowledge, and value for end users and sharing the insights via easy to consume visualisations.

    Influence future data infrastructure and technologies that the department adopts, helping to drive a data driven decision making culture and improving team processes and efficiency.

    Query and

    Database Access Tools:

    Knowledge of data management systems; ability to use, support and access facilities for searching, extracting and formatting data for further use.

    Defines, creates and tests queries by using a command language (SQL preferred).
    Applies appropriate query tools used to connect to the data warehouse.
    Works with advanced features and functions including sorting, filtering and making simple calculations.
    Can understand and design Data Models for various business use case (e.g. Business Intelligence)

    Programming Languages:
    ability to use tools, techniques and platforms in order to write and modify programming languages.
    Development of code in a modern programming language (e.g. Python, C#).
    Follows an organization's standards, policies and guidelines for structured programming specifications.
    Develops code collaboratively with others using version control and modular coding standards.
    Diagnoses and reports minor or routine programming language problems.

    Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; Uses logic and intuition to make inferences about the meaning of the data and arrive at conclusions.

    Generates and interprets statistical data.

    Data and Analytics Tools:

    Knowledge of the Microsoft Power Platform and ability to leverage these tools in a number of business use cases.

    Able to develop and maintain Microsoft PowerApps with functionality aligned to business and project objectives.
    Develop effective Microsoft Power BI dashboards to display key business information that provide insights to the end user.
    Works to drive continuous improvement of data flows into user facing tools to ensure sustainable development of solutions

    An opportunity to develop new, and grow existing, data and analytical skills in a rapidly evolving team and be an active member on a number of OTD focused and cross functional projects.

    There is also an opportunity to help train and develop resource outside of the central OTD Digital Solutions team as we seek to grow the depth of knowledge on Digital tools across OTD and the wider organisation.
