Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen on our psychiatric intensive care unit for the Ward Manager permanent position.
Titian Ward is a 15 bedded male psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU). Service users referred present a high risk to themselves and/or others.
The Ward is registered with the National Association of Psychiatric Intensive Care Units and registered with the Psychiatric Intensive Care Quality Network.
The post holder will be joining a multi-disciplinary team that is committed to the provision of high-quality patient centred care for all who use the service.
The post holder will have worked as a Band 6 Nurse for a minimum of 2 years and can demonstrate knowledge of mental health inpatient wards.
It is desirable that the post holder has worked on a PICU prior to applying and has had previous management responsibilities/experience.
Our Trust provides a wide range of mental health inpatient services including older adult, adult acute, Learning Disabilities, Low secure services and young people. Titian ward supports the risks management of the wards in Sunflowers Court.
We are looking for candidates who have enthusiasm and passion for meeting the needs of acutely unwell adults with Mental Health problems, as well as being adaptable, enjoy variety, can work independently, as well as understanding the relevance of team working.
To ensure that the Trust physical health policy is implemented.
To ensure that issues relating to clinical risk are identified and there are SMART care plans and risk management plans for each patient.
To actively promote service user and carer involvement and by responding constructively to comments, suggestions, complaints, and compliments.
To ensure that interventions on the ward are evidence based and carry out various audits.
To carry out supervision, appraisals and performance reviews in line with the knowledge and skills Framework.
To participate in the Directorate Quality and Safety and Inpatient Experience Group meetings to develop practice and to provide support to ward staff.
To work closely with support services the Practice Improvement Practitioners, HR, Finance and infection control department in ensuring that trust policies are adhered to.
To undertake assessment of client's needs and support the MDT in formulating appropriate individual care plans, taking a holistic approach.
To complete 5 days of Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression course which is yearly updated and implement in practice as required.
Deputise in the absence of the Modern Matron.
Ensure that relatives and carers of service users and feel supported and are able to communicate effectively with the clinical team.
Take steps to maintain the safety and welfare of staff, patients, visitors and to the ward. About us COVID-19 Vaccination

Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process, new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
High-Cost Area Supplement - London
This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of 4,313 and a maximum payment of 5,436). Job description Job responsibilities The post holder will lead in the assessment planning implementation and evaluation of nursing care. This will include managing the daily functioning of the ward, responsibility for all staff management, resource allocation, modernisation and development of the workforce and services and overseeing patient referrals and assessments.
The post holder is responsible for ensuring that supervision, appraisal and PDP are embedded in practice. They will promote supervision as a positive influence for practice. The post holder will provide a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in clinical settings and service areasto staff, patients and carers. The post holder will bring about contemporary evidence based nursing interventions, facilitating a culture shift in accordance with the Trust values.
