Main duties of the job
You will work as part of the multidisciplinary team to help manage the pharmaceutical needs of patients admitted to one of the largest and busiest intensive care units in the UK. North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) Intensive Care unit (ICU) is a state of the art 48 bedded joint ICU/High Dependency Unit within Southmead Hospital, the largest teaching hospital in the South West. We are one of the best performing Major Trauma centres in the UK for survival rates and are a tertiary referral centre for neurology and neurosurgery, renal disease, burns and vascular surgery. Our Phillips ICCA clinical information system was introduced 2 years ago and is helping to develop our clinical practice and continue to improve patient safety. Job descriptionJob responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for the efficient and effective provision, and development of the Pharmacy Service, with a focus on Critical Care, in accordance with Medicines legislation, the Code of Ethics of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), United Kingdom Medicines Information (UKMI) standards and Trust policies and procedures.
The role will provide support alongside the lead specialist pharmacists in the critical care team to ICU and theatres. The successful applicant will provide specialist clinical pharmacy services at a high level to the critical care service. The successful applicant will be expected to teach and supervise less experienced pharmacists, technicians and students. The role will include multidisciplinary working, consultant ward rounds, support to the ICCA clinical information system in place on the unit, financial reporting and identification of potential cost savings for the specialty and the opportunity to deputise for the lead pharmacists at a specialty level and as part of the South West Critical Care Network of pharmacists. The role would be expected to be part of a job share with the existing post holder and ideally would need to work Tuesdays, Wednesdays and one other day each week. The fixed term for the post would be 12 months.
