    Summary of Role:

    The Compliance & Approvals Engineer is based in an R&D department focusing on product development and engineering, they will work with product design teams to ensure that new products meet legal, technical, and commercial compliance requirements and will support the product sustaining team, to ensure conformity is maintained throughout the product's lifecycle and production.

    The Compliance & Approvals Engineer will be required to engage directly with project teams, particularly test engineers and technicians. As well as, dealing with a wide range of customers and stakeholders both internally and externally.

    This role will require the holder to be a competent authority on product compliance and approvals and will support engineering managers in the R&D department in making judgements and decisions.

    The role holder should have a strong quality management mindset and support the maintenance of laboratory processes and procedures which are essential to acquiring necessary product approvals and certifications.

    The main areas of conformity include:

    • Electrical safety (low voltage, up to 690 V)
    • EMC
    • Functional safety (control functions for machinery safety)
    • Environmental regulations (e.g. RoHS and Eco-design/ErP Directive)

    The main approval processes include the following Notified bodies:

    • CE (for LVD, EMC, Machinery Directive & RoHS)
    • UL
    • UKCA (as CE)
    • TuV (Nord, Sud, Rheinland)
    • DNV, ABS, BV, and Lloyds (Marine)

    Key Job Responsibilities:

    • To be successful in this role you will work with design and test teams to ensure conformity requirements are met for design projects.
    • You will be required to issue Declarations of Conformity and similar formal documents for signature by an executive authority.
    • Ensure you maintain the required product documentation and certification through design and production including design changes, with the support of the sustaining team.
    • You will be required to work with the Technical Support team to ensure that the required documentation is available to customers as required, and to assist in responding to conformity-related customer enquiries.
    • Ensuring you engage closely with international approval standards and notified bodies to keep up to date with regulatory requirements for new and existing products.

    Required Qualifications and Experience:

    Essential:

    • Degree or equivalent in electrical /electronic engineering. Lower qualifications like HND will be considered for more experienced candidates with proven long-term experience in this area.
    • Relevant experience in a similar role or in the design of electronic products.
    • Understanding of the principles of electrical safety and EMC for electrical/electronic products
    • Proficient communicator and well-organised

    Desirable:

    • Long-term experience in the design, test, and manufacture of electrical or electronic products with an emphasis on power electronics
    • Detailed technical knowledge of product conformance.
