Role Purpose

Wood Mackenzie is going through a period of significant growth. To maintain our steep growth trajectory, it is critical that we have a clear product strategy and roadmap to continually enhance our existing business, as well as exploring new avenues for market expansion.

The Portfolio Strategy team works on high visibility projects in conjunction with product and business leaders across the organization. The team plays a key role in delivering on Wood Mackenzie's product ambitions, by facilitating executive-level decision making on product strategy and portfolio optimization.

As an analyst, you will play a key role in helping the portfolio strategy team to develop product strategy and investment plans, measuring progress through the implementation of those plans, and improving upon the strategy over the long-term. Specifically, you will deliver internal and external analysis and use this to inform recommendations on product strategy. This is a global role, working cross-functionally with Wood Mackenzie colleagues across the globe.

Main Responsibilities

• Conducting primary and secondary research on:
  • current products and their performance
  • competitor offerings and competitive strategy
  • customer perspectives
  • industry verticals and geographies
• Collecting and analyzing data that allows the team to better understand the product portfolio and the overall business, as well as on how we are progressing against our development plans:
  • financial data
  • sales data
  • product-level data
  • voice-of-the-customer data
  • resourcing
  • delivery progress
• Synthesis and analysis of data and research findings to inform product strategy, business case development and portfolio prioritization
• Communication of findings and recommendations through a variety of mediums and channels
• Supporting business case development to drive investment in new initiatives or markets, as well as in support of potential inorganic growth opportunities
• Providing co-ordination and project management support on high value projects, including product, strategic and investment planning processes
• Learning, working with, and teaching others new tools, platforms, and skills

About You

Our Analysts come from a variety of professional and educational backgrounds, so we are not solely focused on a candidate's experience.

What we are really looking for are individuals who are smart, ambitious, hungry to learn, and who want to work in a collaborative, team-based environment. Some other things we are looking for include:

• Strong analytical, presentation and writing skills: we want someone who can dig into complex datasets, extract, and synthesize the meaningful information and present this clearly and concisely
• Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• A person who can manage ambiguity and is able to make continuous progress on large, long-term, or multi-part projects
• Comfort working at pace
• Experience with financial data preferred
• Desire to tackle interesting challenges and unique opportunities with limited guidance
• Experience of valuation would be desirable
• Exposure to Python, R, Matlab would be a positive but not essential

• We are a hybrid working company and the successful applicant will be expected to be physically present in the office at least 2 days per week to foster and contribute to a collaborative environment, but this may be subject to change in the future
• The nature of this role precludes it from consideration for part-time or flexible working arrangements
• Due to the global nature of the team, a degree of flexible working will be required to accommodate different time zones
