    Default job background
    Description

Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is passionate about providing high-quality services to our communities, residents and businesses. This means we must employ and retain the most talented and dedicated people.

Situated within the heart of the Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, Huntingdonshire is a beautiful district that boasts thriving market towns and many attractive villages, each with its own identity. We are an innovative and forward-thinking local authority whose residents are at the heart of our decision-making.

At HDC we want to employ staff who embody our icare values ( Inspiring, Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Enterprising ), all of which support our ultimate purpose of putting our customers first.

    Job details

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, flexible and diligent Enforcement Officer to assist the Enforcement Team in continuing to deliver a high-quality Enforcement Service within Huntingdonshire.

    About the role

Come and join our friendly and busy planning team where you will play a pivotal role in shaping the sustainable development of our community. In this challenging and rewarding position, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with planning laws and regulations, investigating alleged breaches, and taking appropriate enforcement action.

You will collaborate with planners, architects, and the public to maintain the integrity of our urban landscape. You'll be responsible for scrutinising site histories and plans, carrying out site investigations, dealing with complainants and developers, making reasoned assessments, taking legal action when appropriate and communicating decisions to the parties concerned.

    About you

With a working knowledge of Town and Country Planning, carrying out investigations in a relevant enforcement regime or other relevant area of work, you will use your excellent communication skills to assimilate information impartially in a variety of situations and to make reasoned judgements and recommendations. With the ability to research planning site histories to identify breaches in planning control, you will carry out investigations on building sites, including working on ladders and scaffolding and in uneven ground conditions. A natural team player, you will also be able to work autonomously when required.

This role is suitable for a wide range of people and the service is committed to delivering real change. We are open to discussions from individuals who may be on their career journey and want to step up to the next role. Above all, we want to recruit someone who is committed, enthusiastic, willing to learn and give something back to their local community. Working for a district council provides a unique opportunity to use your individual skills and experience to make a positive change to the lives of many people. If this sounds like you then we would be very interested to discuss this opportunity with you further.

You can apply by either completing an application form or submitting your CV, along with a covering letter, to . CVs will not be accepted without a covering letter to support the application.

The closing date is 9am on 17 May 2024 . However, this is a rolling campaign and we'll be reviewing applications on an ongoing basis and will close the advert early should we receive suitable applications, so please don't delay in applying

For many of our roles (and where it is possible) we are currently working remotely and anticipate in the future returning to a hybrid office model on a flexible basis. This will still include work-from-home and flexi-time opportunities in order to provide a good work-life balance whilst still ensuring that teams benefit from in-person interaction. Candidates should therefore be within commutable distance of our offices in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire or able to attend meetings as required if further afield.

Please note that the official closing date is as above, and will be the correct date. Some third-party websites may have different dates. Please refer to the HDC website for the official closing date to ensure you do not miss out on applying.
