INFORMATIONABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Thisjob is busy and exciting, and you will see a large volume of trauma, oncology,adult and paediatric facial deformity, salivary gland, cleft lip/palate andcraniofacial surgery.
Allin-patient care and operating is undertaken at the Leeds General Infirmarywhich is directly attached to the LDI. Our hospital is a specialist regionalcentre for cleft lip and palate, undertakes Craniofacial and Osseodistractionsurgery and is the regional Major Trauma Centre (MTC), providing excitingexperience in the management of the multiply injured patient. Our ward (23) islocated on G floor in the Jubilee wing and is a dedicatedMaxillofacial/ENT/Neurosurgery ward.
TheOral and Maxillofacial Surgery out-patient department is based at the LeedsDental Institute (LDI). Our unit and department has excellent facilities ofmultiple consulting rooms, dedicated minor surgical suites and a day surgerygeneral anaesthetic theatre, where a large volume of LA, sedation and GA work takesplace.
MEDICALSTAFF IN THE DEPARTMENT
TheOral and Maxillofacial surgery department is dynamic, friendly and energetic,and comprises 9 Consultants, 4 Specialty Registrars, and 5 Specialty DentalSurgeons. You will be part of a close knit team of 8 DCTs and 2 LDFTs. Wehave a large and dedicated nursing staff together with excellent secretarialsupport. Our Unit has a strong team ethos and our aim is to deliver exceptionalcare for our patients, and provide quality in our teaching and training for ourjunior staff. We have close links with both the Faculty of Medicine andDentistry at the University of Leeds.

OurAccident and Emergency department provides a range of acute conditions whichyou cover out of hours. The job is a full shift rota of 1 in 8 out of hours.There is a wealth of oral and minor oral surgery operating that you will beexposed to at the Dental Institute, so this job would appeal to anyone whowants to develop and further their experience in all aspects of dental, oraland maxillofacial surgery.
Thereis a weekly teaching programme, regular audit and regional study days, andgreat opportunities to develop core professional competencies. We encourageresearch and study for postgraduate examinations. We also undertake dedicatedoral surgery teaching days for our core trainees, where they receive one to oneteaching to develop their oral surgical skills.
Thepost is recognised by the Royal Colleges under MFDS and MRCS regulations.
