    Description


    Empowering Learning are supporting an independent provider of specialist education, who support children and young people aged between 7 to 19 years with neurodiverse learning needs.

    They are seeking to appoint a Deputy Headteacher, who will also have SENCo responsibilities on a permanent basis from September 2024, within their community-based provision in East London, that provides therapeutic education for complex and vulnerable neurodiverse pupils.


    The specialist provision offers an alternative to residential placements for young people heading towards negative pathways and focuses on catering for pupils who are unable to attend most school settings, aswell as those likely to have experienced multiple exclusions and been out of education for period of time.

    This programme is about inclusive education and no child attending a school setting and the programme runs for 39 weeks per academic year, with Therapeutic Education Practitioners working with the young people in the community and online, supported by therapists, teaching staff, social workers and other professionals.

    Attendance and safeguarding are monitored daily.


    As the new Deputy Headteacher joining, you will also undertake SENCo responsibilities and come with extensive leadership experience from either with an SEN school or therapeutic education setting.

    You will be highly child-centric education professional who is able to oversee a number of aspects within the community-based service, alongside the Headteacher.

    This role is open to appropriately experienced applicants with the NASENCo qualification or who is willing to undertake.


    You will also coordinate and chair all annual reviews, ensuring they are undertaken in an appropriate timely manner and is a pupil-centric review, inclusive of the pupil's own voice, as part of the wider remit of delivering strategic development of the online school's Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision.

    You will lead your staff team to adapt teaching and learning opportunities, to allow all pupils to thrive, gain qualifications.

    KEY EXPERIENCE/ KEY REQUIREMENTS



    An SEN advocate for young people.
    Role modelling outstanding teaching and professionalism.
    Extensive experience within specialist therapeutic education provisions or specialist schools.

    Proven experience of positive performance management and developing teams, inclusive of coaching and influencing staff to deliver innovative ways of working and teaching.

    Able to provide bespoke interventions, and educational administration linked to Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCPs)
    Experience of driving inclusive education initiatives to support best practice with vulnerable and complex groups.
    Proven skills in coaching & mentoring.

    Proactive and innovative, collaborating with team members in other disciplines, whilst also with the ability to work flexibly and independently.

    NASENCo qualification holder or working towards.
    QTS / QTLS / NPQH qualifiedSalary: £60,500 - £68,000 (Dependent on experience)
