    Description

    We have an exciting opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist with highly specialist skills to work with children and young people (CYP) and their families with complex physical needs, dysphagia and communication difficulties across our community settings.

    You will join a diverse and highly skilled team of therapists working in community settings with 0-19s. You will have strong links with professionals in health, education and other community services.


    You will be based at Alexandra Avenue Health & Social Care Centre and/or Caryl Thomas Clinic where you will support pre-school children with complex needs across the Borough of Harrow.

    You will be working alongside health colleagues and Early Years practitioners to enable differential diagnosis of children with disability and dysphagia, and to ensure highly specialist therapy programmes and education plans are in place for the children under their care.

    A large supportive, sociable and friendly MDT team of over 35 Paediatric Therapists.
    Easily accessible via public transport from central London and neighbouring Counties.
    Providing services to both community and acute settings.

    Excellent levels of support and supervision which includes regular clinical and management supervision every 8 weeks and an annual appraisal.

    An identified buddy who will meet with you every week at first to help you settle in and who you can ask lots of questions.

    Training and Qualifications
    Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent and Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
    Evidence of completion of specialist short courses relevant to children with complex needs communication difficulties, special needs/disablity.
    Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
    Supervision training
    Advanced training up to Masters level equivalent in AAC, e.g. Post graduate dysphagia experience/training attendance or an interest in being trained.

    Assessment, treatment and management of infants, children and young people with social communication differences/autism, complex communication difficulties and dysphagia, physical difficulties and AAC.

    Writing clinical notes and reports.
    Writing advice for children with EHCPs
    Lead audit/research projects

    Post graduate dysphagia experience/training attendance or an interest in being trained


    Well-established knowledge of assessment tools relevant to infants/CYP with physical disabilities and speech, language and communication, eating and drinking difficulties.

    Good written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills, both written and verbal.
    Understanding of differences of working with non- English-speaking service users and those from diverse cultures.

    Established knowledge of national policies and procedures, in particular safeguarding children, SEN and Disability Act for children, the Children and Families Act 2014 and foundation stage and National Curriculum.
