    Working within Managed Support Services the, Programme Manager – Equipment Support Programmes , will be responsible for leading the programme delivery for a growing portfolio of equipment through-life support and modification projects. These are typically in-service systems for Defence and Security applications and the work is both technically challenging and delivers important ongoing capability for the end users. You will lead and develop a team of project/support managers within your domain to ensure success on existing and new projects.

    Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring on time/ on cost delivery of the project portfolio to ensure optimal financial results and customer satisfaction are delivered.
  • Ensuring project baselines are protected and variations controlled, documented reviewed and agreed.
  • Ensuring opportunities afforded by customer scope growth to increase contract worth are seized, and overseeing the timely and accurate development of quotations/proposals to support portfolio growth.
  • Implementing Lifecycle Management and Project Management processes on all projects/bids and support continuous improvement of process.
  • Leading Contract/Project Reviews to ensure monthly and lifecycle governance checkpoints, ensuring full involvement and support of all key stakeholders as required.
  • Demonstrating control and management of risks, issues and opportunities.
  • Ensuring all project requirements and contract deliverables (technical, commercial, project management, delivery etc., both internal & external) are clearly understood from the outset (or firmed-up during the bid/contract negotiation phase) and documented.
  • In conjunction with commercial colleagues, provide guidance and escalation for your team to ensure commercial agreements are adhered to, and if necessary adapted.
  • Ensuring appropriate project management team capability via recruitment, management and staff development, whilst providing strong and inspirational leadership to your team.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate financial projections.
  • Consistently delight our customers by delivering high levels of service, quality and engagement whilst ensuring the value they require is being created and delivered.
  • Promote strong collaborative working across the organisational matrix.
  • Apply if you have most of the following:

  • APM/ degree level programme management qualification.
  • Technically you would have come from a Project or Programme Management background, but when it comes to the successful candidate, we are open to someone if they haven't been in the defence and security sector before.
  • Strong programme management skills and the ability to flexibly deploy those skills in accordance with the complexity and risk of underlying projects/ problems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, and comfortable presenting when required.
  • A high level of customer focus, commercial awareness and change management skills.
  • An understanding of financial and wider management principles and techniques.
  • Demonstrably strong Project or Programme Management background is essential.
  • Experience in defence/military environment would be beneficial, but not essential.
  • Experience in an engineering environment, particularly equipment through-life support, would be highly beneficial.
  • Experience of partnering with a range of external and internal key stakeholders.
  • Experience in managing complexity on programmes.
  • High levels of computer literacy with MS Office and MS Project. Experience with IFS is desirable, but not essential.
