This is an interim role for 3-6 months, whilst the substantive role is awaiting RCPsych approval and will then be advertised.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic consultant to join our existing consultant group and form part of the Neurodevelopment team (NDT) and Crisis.
You will have a passion for working with young people in a deprived area and the challenges that this might bring.
The post involves the management of young people who have Autism and / or Intellectual Disabilities with additional mental health difficulties.
You will help lead this dynamic team and provide your expertise in the assessment and management of young people and families that are referred to the team.
You will also support the ADHD treatment team in conjunction with other medical and non-medical prescribers.This post is also part time with the Crisis team that provides liaison and consultation to the Emergency Department and short stay wards at University Hospital Lewisham.
This includes the assessment of young people presenting in crisis, teaching of both medical (including junior CT psychiatric doctors) and non-medical staff and also linking with the psychiatric adult liaison service.
This post is split into 6 PAs of with the NDT, of which 1PA is allocated to ADHD treatment team with other consultants in the borough and 4Pas with the Crisis Team.
This is a new model, and at time of writing, has not been started.5PAs (in total, pro rata) of structured professional activities, during which the post holder will contribute to service development, research clinical governance and quality improvement, in addition to completing continuous professional development and pursuing other professional activities.
The NDT is a well-established service that also has another consultant psychiatrist (6 PAs) as well as consultant psychology (part-time) to support in the leadership of the team.
We offer specialist interventions following assessments to these young people and includes individual work as well as group. It is open to young people and children aged 0 to 18 years who are registered with Lewisham GP and have additional mental health difficulties (with an existing diagnosis of autism (ASD) and/or intellectual disabilities (ID))Flexible working:

In this role you will be able to work Monday to Friday in the time frames from 8am to 6pm, giving you the very best of good work life balance.
The post will involve some home working, with equipment provided as required.1) Assessment and management of children and young people, and to provide psychiatric input for both routine and emergency clinical care. 2) Supervision of junior medical staff. 4) Liaising and communicating with the MDT, other professionals, teams and agencies 5) Strong clinical leadership 6) Provision of advice to other CAMHS teams. 8) Participation in training of medical students, psychiatric trainees and multidisciplinary staff.
The post holder will also be expected to be involved with service-wide assessments with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, including occasional Saturday clinics (with time off in lieu).
Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or managementExperience in other relevant specialties such as in patient psychiatry, liaison psychiatry (especially Paediatrics)
Evidence for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within six months of gaining CCT in C& A psychiatry or Equivalent training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CESR issued by PMETB).
Training and ExperienceExperience in Outpatient/Community Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Training or experience within Paediatric liaison service and / or Crisis Team
Training in treatment modalities
Training in investigation of complaints and SIs
Experience of providing consultation to non-CAMHS practitioners
Good ability to relate to children, adolescents and parents
Understanding of how complaints and serious incidents are managed
Expertise in the use and application of The Mental Health Act in children and young people
Evidence of skills in consultation to non-mental health specialists e.g. Expertise in CBT or other therapeutic intervention to postgraduate level
Significant experience of developing and leading outpatient/community CAMHS psychiatric care
Academic Skills and Lifelong Learning
Research:
Involvement in research projects
Excellent demonstrable communication skills in English (both oral and written)
Management/Audit:
Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
Research:
Experienced in clinical research and / or service evaluation
Personal Skills:
Has led quality improvement projects/audits leading to service change or improved outcomes to patients
Evidence of involvement with business planning of clinical services
