    Job Description

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Design Manager to join and work with the Southern region of this leading national Tier 1 main contractor to manage the design process for one of several new build and refurbishment projects in the Berkshire/Hampshire/Wiltshire area.

    This business currently has several schemes in late second stage preconstruction which are due to start on site in the summer, in the secondary education, further education, MoJ and student accommodation sectors.

    Projects are all two stage design and build schemes secured on national frameworks and in the region of £25m to £70m in value.

    Reporting initially to the Preconstruction Director and Head of Design you will be responsible for:

    • Latter stages of the design development for your scheme;
    • Chairing of regular design team meetings;
    • Management of consultant design team and sub-contractors in house design teams;
    • Liaison with client, stakeholders, consultants and the project construction team;
    • Agreement of information required schedule; Ensuring key dates achieved;
    • Overseeing the Master Information Delivery Plan / Digital BIM model;
    • Detailed review of construction design information for buildability, compliance with contractors proposals, employers requirements, budget, current building legislation, etc;
    • Identifying opportunities for value engineering opportunities where appropriate;
    • Issue resolution;
    • Engagement / management of specialist sub-contractor design teams;
    • Managing the smooth and timely delivery of detailed design information for procurement and construction throughout the build process.

    About the Company/Client/Project:

    The company is a leading national main contractor, with experience and a proven track record in the delivery of complex new build schemes in secondary education, further education, commercial offices, sports and leisure centres, custodial buildings, etc ranging from £25m to £70m in the Berkshire, Hampshire and Wiltshire areas - M3 / M4 corridors.

    Turnover is circa £150m for the office, with a regional base close to the M4 in Berkshire.

    Requirements including certificates and qualifications:

    Either from an Engineering/Construction delivery or Architectural background, you will possess excellent technical, practical and commercial knowledge, a keen understanding of construction methodology, materials and systems, procurement lead in times, BIM Lev 2 requirements, current building regulations and contractors obligations etc.

    You will have excellent communication and negotiations skills, strong planning and problem solving ability, initiative and a positive approach. In terms of character, you will be a highly driven, positive and ambitious individual able to work well within a large team dynamic.

    You will ideally have a proven track record of successful project delivery to date with a recognised Main Contractor in a Design Coordination / Design Management role.
