    Description

    My client is a fully integrated, end-to-end CDMO (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization) service provider offering innovative and fully integrated chemistry-based solutions covering the entire life cycle of our clients' products in 3 global markets Crop Protection, Pharmaceuticals, and Performance Chemicals. In the financial year 2023, the group, consisting of roughly 4,000 employees, recorded sales amounting to approximately 1 billion dollars.

    Consisting of roughly 300 employees, my client based at Seal Sands, operates a Quality System from ISO 9001 to cGMP which has been audited by UK MHRA in 2022. The site is ISO 14001 and 45001 certified.

    They carry out a broad range of chemical reactions at their site in Seal Sands. With a wide variety of equipment, long experience in handling hazardous materials and processes safely, and on-site process safety testing we are set up to deal with most chemistries run at manufacturing scale.

    They are looking for a Process Safety & Hazards Manager to join our Technology & Engineering function focussing on providing expertise to drive process safety management (PSM) activities within the their Seal Sands site to achieve compliance with corporate policies, external regulations and build a process safety excellence culture.

    You'll be joining a team of 4 process safety and hazards assessment professionals at various stages of their careers, from recent graduates through to industry experts.

    Accountabilities

    • Liaising with other functions onsite and globally, lead the technical team to timely deliver process safety and hazards assessment capability to the capital projects, business inquiries, new product introduction, process changes etc prior to implementation.
    • Lead the planning, execution, interpretation and reporting of laboratory hazards testing, hazard studies and process risk assessments.
    • Lead the planning and preparation of the site's COMAH safety report and any modification reports and represent the company in COMAH Competent Authority and other regulatory interventions and communications.
    • Develop, monitoring and communication of process safety key performance indicators (KPIs), including, managing process safety audits, generation of process safety reports and action plans that strive for best practice and ensure legal compliance.
    • Lead or steer the investigation of process safety incidents using suitable investigation techniques.
    • Lead process safety hazards capability for the department – including coaching & mentoring others, developing or improving systems and ways of working, owning technical training and collaborating with other functions across site.
    • Maintain own expertise up to date through, contact with external bodies, membership of relevant external organizations.

    Critical Knowledge and Experience

    • An understanding of process safety related risk assessment methodologies and standards (such as HAZID, PHR, SIL, LOPA, FMEA, PSM, HAZOP, PHA, DSEAR, Occupied Buildings, Bowtie Assessments, Hazardous Area Classification, Major Accidents & Disasters, QRA), and experience of their practical application, including leading or participating in studies.
    • Experience of applying your process safety knowledge within the oil and gas, chemical, nuclear or other high hazard sectors. This could perhaps be within an operating company, as a regulator, project engineer or consultant.
    • Operational experience of process safety management, including topics such as leadership, culture, competency, asset integrity, permit to work, isolations, and operating procedures.
    • Knowledge of the COMAH Regulations and experience with regulators and writing safety Report.
    • Would be particularly welcome experience in the development and application of PSM procedures within the high hazard industries and PSM auditing.

    Qualifications

    • Master's degree level in Chemical or Process Engineering.
    • Chartered Engineering status is desirable.
    • A higher additional process safety related qualification (e.g. MSc) would be a distinct advantage.
