    Job summary

    We are seeking a highlyorganised and experienced individual to support the clinical governance andquality improvement agenda for the clinical imaging services delivered by the School at GSTT. This post requires an individual with previousexperience of working in an imaging delivery ( radiography) and/orclinical governance role in a busy acute hospital, with a proven track recordof successfully implementing change.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder will work closely with a wide range of stakeholders, including the School Director of Clinical & Research Imaging Operations, Clinical Leads, Service Managers, Superintendent Radiographers and Medical Physics Leads to provide support to implement comprehensively the principles and practice of clinical governance. This covers the systems and processes for monitoring and improving services, through to the outcomes of complaints, incidents and patient experience including user and public involvement. The post holder will support risk and incident management, patient complaints and feedback, audit, and clinical effectiveness programmes, and will be responsible for reviewing and monitoring staff education and training, and compliance with document quality and control processes and use of information. They will have a key role in monitoring and implementing the quality management systems used by the Schools imaging services to support their QSI accreditation and compliance with GSTT and School standards.

    The post holder will liaise closely with the CLIMP Clinical Governance Manager and will be expected to work effectively with other GSTT Directorates and Governance teams, risk management, complaints and litigation, patient advice and liaison service (PALS) and quality assurance colleagues, and external agencies, as required. They will also engage with the Schools wider research governance and patient and public involvement, engagement and participation teams.

    TheSchool of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences is part of KingsCollege Londons Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine. It operates a portfolioof specialist clinical imaging services (cardiac and perinatal MRI andPET scanning) to approximately 15,000 patients a year at Guys and St ThomasNHS Foundation Trust (GSTT).In partnership with GSTTs Clinical Imaging& Medical Physics (CLIMP) Directorate, these Kings College London servicesare accredited in accordance with the Quality Standard for Imaging (QSI) 2021,and share the same exemplary clinical governance standards.

    The role is based in School space at St Thomas Hospital. On-site attendance will be required, with limited scope for home working.

    Job responsibilities

  • Leadand act as a subject expert for clinical governance and quality improvement,representing this area of expertise at university and external meetings
  • Supportthe Schools services compliance with QSI, School/Kings and NHS Trustrequirements, ensuring service leads and clinical staff maintain records inline with the Schools document control policy.
  • Workclosely with service leads and clinical staff to implement the clinicalgovernance and quality improvement programme across the School to optimise theclinical care and patient experience, responding to a changing context andaligning objectives with QSI, School and NHS Trust decisions.
  • Provideadvanced expertise and management of diverse teams and resources, supportingservice areas to set the School standards and put in place procedures that meetthe QSI standards, based on a thorough understanding of the principles anddevelopments in the field.
  • Engagein continuing professional development and training initiatives to maintain anddevelop skills and knowledge.
  • Workindependently based on an agreed work plan, setting own priorities andstandards and those of the service teams, working cooperatively to achieve theservice objectives linked to clinical governance and quality improvement.
  • Takedecisions both independently and collaboratively that last for over a year withpotentially long-lasting implications.
  • Researchand analyse quantitative and qualitative information from multiple sources todirect service improvement and inform procedures and interventions, conveyingthe detail and rationale in a clear way.
  • Representthe Schools imaging services at localand national forums, including with the NHS, community and other partners,promoting achievements in care and regularly deputise for linemanager(s), working with colleagues and networking within and beyond Kings.
  • Forgerelationships with colleagues within Kings, GSTT and externally, todisseminate and get information, coordinate and deliver the required service,involving the pubic and users to assess service quality and improvements.
  • Liaisewith multi-disciplinary services teams and patient groups to support them inthe refinement of the service.
  • Providehighly specialist advice and training on clinical governance and qualityimprovement.
  • Communicateclearly and effectively, orally and in writing, and use well-developedlistening and influencing skills to work effectively across teams.
  • Assistthe Schools service leads to compile and present regular reports at School andCLIMP meetings.
  • Contributeto the development of the strategic and operational objectives of the Schooland its services, supporting clinical and service leads in implementingimprovements and delivering targets
  • Collaboratewith the Schools service leads to develop, maintain, revise and enact theincident response plan, risk registers and business continuity plans for theirservices, advising on clinical audits and service evaluations recording serviceimprovements on the Clinical Audit Database, and putting in place a resilientand effective complaints procedure and database.
  • Usecritical evaluation and problem-solving skills to respond to changingpriorities to make improvements to services and protocols.
  • Leadand encourage innovation in the quality improvement and clinical governance andtheir use in the Schools services.
  • Identify,plan and support changes in clinical practice resulting from local andcross-Directorate clinical governance work plans in collaboration with theclinical multidisciplinary teams.
  • Providehighly specialist advice and training on clinical governance and qualityimprovement, supporting service leads to monitor staff training and developmentneeds to ensure full compliance with GSTT and Kings training requirements.
  • Facilitatean inclusive culture and ethos when working with patients, relatives/carers andvisitors along with colleagues in and external to Kings.

    Essential

  • Minimum level 6 qualification in a relevant subject ( Bachelors Degree)

  • Level 7 qualification in a relevant subject ( Masters Degree)

    Essential

  • Substantial work experience in a relevant imaging delivery ( radiography) and/or clinical governance post, including managerial experience or qualification
  • Authoritative knowledge and practical experience of deploying the principles and practice of clinical governance and relevant systems to improve clinical practice.
  • Good understanding, based on direct work experience, of the NHS and how it is changing, including the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework

  • Experience of managing conflict and difficult situations and knowledge of a wide range of problem-solving techniques
  • Experience of managing document control and data analysis platforms ( Sharepoint sites, Power BI)
