As a senior member of the Liaison Psychiatry and UHS Adult Psychology teams you will work with the Adult and Older Adult Liaison Psychiatry teams to extend and develop psychological practice within the liaison team and work with patients and staff within Southampton General Hospital. The post has been extended to a full time senior post to allow for the development of the service and new initiatives.
The postholder will line manage, and be based with, a Clinical Associate Practitioner. Also, you will have close working links with other local liaison psychologists and a large team of Psychologists working in the hospital either within Staff Psychology or Clinical Health Psychology in UHS Adult Psychology. Balancing wellbeing with work demands and developing your professional skills are highly valued within the UHS Adult Psychology team. It offers many opportunities to develop your interest in therapeutic approaches through informal networking, facilitated reflective practice, education days and specialist supervision or discussion groups. Currently we have active interests in Systemic, Acceptance and Commitment, Cognitive Analytic Therapy and EMDR therapeutic approaches. Funded training opportunities are available to all team Psychologists recently these have included EMDR, ACT and CAT. UHS Adult Psychology is active in local and national specialist psychology groups. We have close links with Southampton University and many psychologists teach on the systemic and health modules. Main duties of the job The postholder will work with the liaison team to provide a psychological service for the team, medical colleagues, and families. They will offer assessment and short term interventions to patients and supervision, consultation, and training to medical and liaison colleagues. Currently the team is involved in a national RCT to offer follow up interventions for patients who self-harm. Postholders will be encouraged to work with the liaison teams to develop new initiatives and work within the hospital to develop and enhance psychological thinking and practice. This will also involve linking with the new acute care pathway in SHFT and community mental health services.
