    An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic, highly motivated nurse/ practitioner with experience or a keen interest in safeguarding to join our integrated, dynamic, and friendly safeguarding team at West Herts Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust working to safeguard adults at risk.

    Safeguarding is a key priority for the Trust. We are an integrated team comprising of safeguarding adults and children's nurses and midwives. We work closely with the Acute Health Liaison Team who are trained nurses in Learning Disabilities, Independent domestic Abuse Advisors and have recently appointed an Independent Sexual Violence advisor. We work collaboratively to ensure that high quality safe care is offered to all at adults, children and young people that access our services.

    You will be working with staff from all areas of the Trust supporting them in their safeguarding responsibilities, promoting best practice as well as working closely with external agencies developing strong relationships and effective partnership working to protect our vulnerable patients.

    Based within the Trust safeguarding team, the post holder will support the work of the safeguarding Clinical Nurse Specialists. You will be highly visible in clinical areas, giving advice on safeguarding to a range of professionals across the organisation and contributing to the delivery of training, supervision, and general safeguarding activities.

    We are looking for a nurse / practitioner with a range of experience – on initial appointment you will work with the adult clinical nurse specialist. Our integrated team has adopted a 'think family' approach to safeguarding our patients so training and development will be available for you to develop your skills across the wider safeguarding arena.

    Main duties of the job

    The successful candidate will provide the very best care for every patient, every day.
    The post holder will provide expert advice, support, and guidance to a range of professionals across the Trust to ensure the delivery of high-quality care in relation to safeguarding. They will be required to work with multi-professional colleagues both within the Trust and with external organisations including primary care, the Local Authority, and the Safeguarding Board.

    The candidate should be able to demonstrate they can work with multi professional team and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with the ability to teach staff in a variety of forums.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

    The post holder will work as part of the Trust Safeguarding Team providing specialist advice and support to staff as appropriate in cases of actual or suspected abuse or neglect under supervision from the team.

    Assist the CNS safeguarding in investigating and managing safeguarding concerns for patients within the Trust.
    Assist staff in making referrals to Children Services and Adult Care Services.
    Present cases clearly, consistently and professionally to the clinical team caring for the patient contributing effectively in patient management.

    Where appropriate, support staff to professionally challenge others where it is felt that safeguarding concerns have not been properly addressed.
    Initiate communication with Children Services / Adult Care Services in cases of concern, ensuring appropriate action is taken, documented, and followed up.

    Support the CNS safeguarding in the production of safeguarding reports, legal statements, and court reports for any legal proceedings.

    Maintain the Trusts safeguarding children and adults' referrals database.
