Workshop Manager Mechanical - Maidenhead, Berkshire, United Kingdom - Serco
Description
Our waste and recycling services enable local authorities to deliver reliable waste management services, with over 200,000 tons of waste recycled every year.
And one of the most important parts of the team our are vehicle mechanics, who ensure that our HGV refuse trucks and street cleansing vehicles can keep our community clean, green and safe for all residents and businesses.
Joining our friendly team as a supervisor will see you undertake training for your Transport Manager CPC, ensuring that our fleet of refuse trucks are maintained, serviced and managed appropriately and overseeing a small team of Mechanics on a day to day basis.
They might not be the most glamorous vehicles, but you'll go home each day knowing you'll have contributed to your local community.
In addition to this, you will manage the vehicle maintenance delivery including costs and carrying out quality checks, manage the vehicle budget to ensure that maintenance and spares expenditure is controlled and review the Workshop efficiency, implementing improvements to the service wherever possible and necessary, as well as accurately record all vehicle accidents, incidents and MOT results are accurately recorded and reported.
This role will also see you attend regional monthly review meetings, work closely with the Fleet Manager and National Workshop Manager to develop and manage the Mechanical Apprenticeship programme, in addition to monitoring staffing levels and rotas, ensuring all Company Policies and Directives relating to Road Transport and Dangerous Goods, including Animal by-products are fully complied with and that the legislative obligations of the Operator's Licence/s are fully complied with.
Our team is made up of professional and supportive teammates, including managers who began their careers with Serco as mechanics and have worked their way up to Supervisor, Fleet Manager and Regional Manager positions.
As such, we are dedicated to the ongoing development and progression of our mechanic teams, with outstanding training along opportunities to undertake additional qualifications, including Management Training courses, Transport Manager CPC, HGV Driver training, IOSSH training and Irtec accreditation.
First and foremost, you'll need to be an experienced and fully qualified mechanic - preferably with HGV mechanic experience or be willing to undertake additional training to upskill.
We are always keen to hear from candidates from the armed forces with mechanical backgrounds, or workshop/garage supervisors with experience of maintaining HGV vehicles to maintain our fleet of approximately 90 Class 2, 7.5T, transits and 4x4 vehicles and help manage our team.
To be successful in the role, we require that candidates have electrical and hydraulic fault-finding experience, the ability to carry out general chassis service work, and Full industry recognised qualifications (City & Guilds / NVQ Level Three in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair).
You should have good written and verbal communication skills, be able to undertake all aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair, and general welding skills would be advantageous.
All we ask if that you are ambitious and have a good understanding of UK and EU road transport legislation, including Goods MoT requirements and Construction and Use regulations.
At times you may be required to go off site to attend to vehicles that have broken down, so it is essential that you hold a full UK driving licence.
Working within Environmental Services at Serco means that you'll play a critical role in ensuring that the communities we serve receive reliable waste management services.
So whether you specialise your skills, undertake additional training or progress into senior management you'll find all the opportunity you need to evolve your career.
