    Description
    Come and join our Psychology team and be part of shaping psychological provision across the older people's community service.

    We are a supportive team that values innovation, development and is passionate about the care of older people and their families.


    We are looking for a qualified Clinical Psychologist to join our team providing high quality community services to older people within North East Hampshire and Farnham.

    The Community Mental Health Team is part of SABP, with the clinical base at Aldershot Centre for Health, Aldershot. We work with those over 65-years who are faced with mental health and/or memory problems.


    Our Psychology department recognise the importance of support for team members, have regular CPD sessions, externally provided skills workshops and access to specialist neuropsychology supervision monthly, in addition to regular clinical and management supervision.

    Our Trust is a pilot site for the Transformation agenda opening up opportunities to train and develop skills allied to expanding and developing services and specialisms.

    Our department has expanded rapidly allowing for further opportunities to take forward clinician interests, with strong links to local training courses.

    We offer a comprehensive induction programme, with regular supervision, and a good peer support network.

    This exciting role will involve working autonomously in conducting detailed assessment and formulation, therapeutic intervention, and neuropsychological assessments, covering both functional and organic problems for people living in the local community.

    You will also be supporting and supervising unqualified and qualified psychology staff.


    There will be opportunities to lead on quality improvement projects and to contribute to the development of psychology provision across older people's services.

    We support the undertaking of leadership and supervisor training to enable you to develop your skills and progress in your role.


    You will be working collaboratively with members of a well-established multi-disciplinary team, where psychology is highly valued in the team.

    Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is the leading provider of health and social care services for people of all ages with mental ill-health and learning disabilities in Surrey and North East Hampshire.

    We also provide social care services for people with a learning disability in Croydon and ASD and ADHD assessment services in Hampshire.

    We work closely with other NHS and voluntary sector organisations who provide services and support people who use services and carers.

    by promoting health and independence for people who use our services and their carers support staff by delivering high quality psychology assessments, formulation and interventions providing consultation, supervision and guidance to band 7 trainees, assistant psychologists and others as required.

    To mentor, supervise and teach qualified and unqualified staff including students Promoting a psychological perspective both within teams and sharing with other colleagues Work collaboratively with team managers/ Clinical leads in the development and delivering of effective services The postholder will be expected to work flexibly within the service To lead on complex and challenging cases and develop expertise within area of specialism Participating in the recruitment and selection of staff Leading on a specific service development projects

    To act within the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act To be aware of and implement Safeguarding Adult and Child Protection Policies, Procedures and legislation.


    To carry out comprehensive psychological and cognitive assessments and formulation, plan implement and evaluate delivery of psychology interventions and consultations to support people with specific and complex needs.


    To actively involve people in developing and agreeing their own care plan, to act as an advocate and ensure that there is proper regard for their dignity, choice, self-esteem, racial, cultural, sexual and religious needs and preferences.


    To work creatively to adapt verbal and written communication to meet the needs of people who use our services To undertake comprehensive risk assessments and develop effective risk management plans for people with complex needs.

    To conduct and lead on clinical audit, quality assurance and research, maintaining current knowledge of research findings and development within specific care group


    To develop and provide a range of specialist teaching/training packages which can be delivered to a range of multi-disciplinary audiences.

    To positively contribute to divisional and team developments in relation to all aspects of psychology practice.

    To lead on the supervision and Individual Performance Review/Appraisal of assistant psychologists as required.

    To contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate policies, protocols and care pathways.


    To contribute to initiatives to ensure that the diverse needs of people within the care group are addressed within local services and future developments.


    To act as practice assessor/supervisor/teacher in teaching, facilitating and supporting pre registration students and junior personnel and to participate in the audit of educational placements.

    Assist in appropriate staff recruitment and induction and contribute to the wider strategic plans regarding psychology recruitment.

    To practice within a Positive Behaviour Support and trauma informed care framework
    Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology qualification or equivalent.


    Completion of an appropriate clinical supervision course to enable supervision of trainees (or completion within 12 months of commencement in post).

    Additional training in neuropsychological assessment.
    Up-to-date knowledge of key policies and guidelines for older people & dementia care.

    Experience of working with people from across the life span with a range of mental health issues and cognitive profiles.

    ~ 6 months experience of working with older people with mental health difficulties and/or dementia (can be pre-qualification).

    Experience of supervising assistant and trainee clinical psychologists.
    Interest in working with long-term health conditions.
    Experience of practicing within a Positive Behaviour Support and trauma informed care framework.
