    Learning and Assessment Lead

    Hybrid Role with 3 days per week on-site, City of London and 2 days remote

    This is a new role at a leading London Chartered Body. The Learning and Assessment Lead is responsible for designing and implementing the Institute's assessment models for all learning products. This role takes a user-centred approach to assessment design and works within recognized qualification frameworks. Responsibilities include overseeing the entire learning and assessment process, ensuring efficient delivery via online platforms, and managing a team comprising of an Assessment Manager and two Learning and Assessment Executives/Administrators, while collaborating with colleagues across the Institute.

    Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities

    • Assessment Design and Implementation: Collaborate with the Learning and Development Lead and Quality Standards Lead to plan, design, and implement flexible and modern assessment approaches for new and existing programs, aligned with the Institute's strategic objectives.
    • Team Leadership: Lead the assessment team in producing high-quality assessment materials by effectively managing Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). Oversee the entire lifecycle from planning, development, and review to scheduling, operational delivery, and monitoring across all qualifications.
    • Budget Management: Manage the learning and assessment budget, including securing suppliers, managing contracts and relationships, and tracking key contractual terms and dates.
    • Collaborative Reviews: Work with Learning Standards and Learning Development teams to conduct lifecycle reviews for all learning products, ensuring continuous improvement.
    • Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality, efficiency, integrity, and security of all online systems and processes for assessment delivery. Implement a continuous improvement cycle.
    • Reporting and Policy Development: Provide comprehensive reports to relevant committees and boards. Collaborate on policy documents, rules, and regulations for assessments.
    • Internal Promotion and Communication: Promote the Assessment team's work internally through emails, presentations, and relationship-building activities within the organisation.
    • Student Communication Management: Oversee student communications regarding assessments, including registrations, extenuating circumstances, and appeals. Ensure the Contact Centre and other relevant departments are updated on assessment cycles, processes, and student information.
    • Expert Guidance: Serve as the go-to person for queries regarding online assessment methods, delivery platforms, and processes.
    • Supplier Relationship Management: Manage and improve relationships with assessment contractors, such as assessment writers, markers, and reviewers (SMEs), ensuring quality contributions and value for money.
    • Support and Efficiency Improvement: Identify areas for enhancing support for students, trainees, and learners, and improve the efficiency of learning and assessment delivery.
    • International Collaboration: Act as the point of contact for international divisions using Institute learning and assessment materials, ensuring contractual obligations, payments, and delivery schedules are met.
    • Data Analytics and Feedback: Work with Marketing and the Contact Centre to establish suitable analytics and feedback loops for informed decision-making and incorporate them into organizational planning and reporting.
    • Line Management: Line manages the Assessment Manager and holds overall team accountability, including two permanent and one fixed-term Learning and Assessment Administrators.

    Person Specification

    (i) Knowledge

    • Strong understanding of learning and assessment functions within professional and/or membership body sectors.
    • In-depth knowledge of higher-level assessment frameworks.
    • Familiarity with online learning platforms, remote invigilation, anti-plagiarism software, and contemporary learning practices.
    • An assessment qualification (desirable).

    (ii) Experience

    • At least three years in a Learning and/or Assessment role.
    • Educated to degree level or higher.
    • Proven experience in delivering high-stakes exams under strict operational guidelines, preferably online.
    • Commercial acumen and experience with budget preparation and management.
    • Experience in gathering analytics and using them for decision-making.
    • Proficiency in third-party management.
    • Demonstrated line management experience.
    • Experience engaging with influential and high-profile individuals, corporate partners, suppliers, and internal senior stakeholders.

    (iii) Skills

    • Ability to lead and coordinate multiple work streams.
    • Excellent written, research, and analytical skills.
    • Strong relationship-building, networking, and negotiating skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively at all levels.
    • Exceptional planning, prioritization, and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and solve problems.
    • High degree of consistency and attention to detail in all work.
