Monday-Friday: 8 AM-12 PM or 1 PM-5 PM; This is a critical position in Library service, responsible for assisting the study and research of faculty, staff, and students by obtaining resources not available onsite from other institutions or commercial document suppliers.
Bachelor's Degreeability to communicate with, and support people on, all levels from students (undergraduate and graduate) to faculty to administrators.
Respect for the importance of the academic research process, reflected in conscientious attention to the needs of patrons.Proficiency in using standard software (e.g., Microsoft Office); especially comfortable with learning new software; Supervisory and training skills are a plus.
Extensive keyboarding at the computer is required.Verify and order books, articles, and media resources for our patrons using a variety of databases.
Process incoming requests from institutions worldwide for materials held by our library and pack them for physical shipment or scan them for electronic delivery.
Use various systems, including ILLiad, 2 UPS systems, Odyssey, OCLC WorldShare, Alma, and other specialized software.Maintain Interlibrary Loan statistics on a daily basis and, using Excel spreadsheets to extract various statistics, create various monthly and annual reports.
Keep up to date on developments in Interlibrary Loan in academic libraries, e.g., Prepare claims for lost items.Work with the Public Services Librarian to manage Mosaic, the institutional repository of Messiah's scholarship.
Pack and ship library materials to Messiah's online students.
In conjunction with the Public Services Librarian, maintain the building's appearance in June and July, including seeing that study surfaces are cleared regularly; and ensuring that patron-facing areas are orderly and clean.
