    Description

    The cancer centre at Lancashire Teaching Hospital has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated registered nurse/allied health professional to join our well established acute oncology team as a metastatic spinal cord coordinator.

    The role involves coordinating the metastatic spinal cord compression (MSCC) pathway for patients with impending, confirmed or suspected MSCC as per the Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Alliance Network MSCC group.


    You will work alongside other clinical colleagues in oncology, neurosurgery, palliative care, acute medicine and radiology to ensure quality of care to the patients is maximised.

    You will also provide a point of reference and advice for clinical teams responsible for patients with suspected, impending and confirmed metastatic spinal cord compression (MSCC).

    Lancashire Teaching Hospitals is renowned for our teaching, training and support with modern educational facilities and simulation suites. Within the department we have a number of staff involved in education and research projects.

    As the MSCC Pathway Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in orchestrating the management of patients presenting with impending, confirmed, or suspected metastatic spinal cord compression (MSCC) within the Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Alliance Network MSCC group.

    The post holder will work alongside other clinical colleagues in oncology, neurosurgery, palliative care, acute medicine and radiology to ensure quality of care to the patients is maximised.

    The coordinator will ensure that accurate data is obtained about patients with impending and confirmed MSCC. This could include both quantitative data (e.g. relating to time scale) and qualitative data (e.g. presenting symptoms). Audit of this data will be provided annually and outcomes reviewed with the multidisciplinary team to inform future practice.
