    Full Time, Permanent
Salary: £53,361 per annum in London or £50,594 per annum if outside London
Location: Electoral Commission offices in London, Cardiff, Belfast or Edinburgh with flexible working

The Electoral Commission exists to ensure that every voter in this country has a chance to make their voice heard, no matter who they are or where they live. As a public body serving the UK, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, this means understanding and reflecting the needs of people across all the nations and regions of the UK.

To continue to achieve this equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) are fundamental to the way we want to work. We are looking for a lead to help us continue the journey we have begun in ensuring that we embed EDI in all aspects of our work and that we treat all voters and staff with respect, fairness and openness. This is a unique opportunity to have a direct and personal impact upon the future of our democracy

    Job Description

We strive to be a world-class public sector organisation and to continue to achieve this, EDI is fundamental. We recognise that innovation, talent and creativity thrive in diverse well-led teams that fully reflect the society we serve. We are committed to embedding EDI in the delivery of all our work and in the treatment of our stakeholders and staff. An essential aspect of this will be our adherence to equalities legislation across the 4 nations of the United Kingdom.

An EDI Lead will be influential in defining change and leading the organisation through the necessary steps. You will need to command the confidence both of senior management and of staff. You will bring a clear vision of the kind of diverse organisation we could aspire to be; you will be able to develop a strategy, deliver the practical steps to make that a reality and gain the commitment of the organisation to your approach. You will measure and be accountable for the progress of he organisation against our EDI commitments.

You will be our key advisor in this area, helping us to ensure we go beyond our obligations under equalities legislation, and help shape and deliver on our aspirations. The role will take you across all aspects of our work, including equality impact assessments, staff training, performance, external equality accreditations and supporting our Equality and Diversity Group.

    Role Requirements

You will need to be a proactive self-starter, have a keen interest in and understanding of EDI matters, and the drive to make a real difference. As important, you will have excellent people skills, able to work collaboratively and use your influencing skills to create meaningful change with a variety of stakeholders. An understanding of the differing equalities requirements across the devolved nations would be particularly welcome.

This is a full-time permanent position which could be considered on a job-share basis. The role is based within our Chief Executive Directorate reporting to the General Counsel, however you will also work closely with 'our Human Resources Team.

The role can be based in any of our offices in London, Belfast, Cardiff and Edinburgh; the nature of the role would require travel to engage with staff in our largest office in London. The Electoral Commission supports hybrid working in the office and remotely.

We understand that diversity and inclusion make teams stronger and more effective, and as an organisation, we are committed to fair and equitable employment practices for everyone.

We also know that diverse candidates may be put off applying for jobs where they don't meet 100% of the criteria outlined in the advert, however, we encourage anyone to apply who can demonstrate a variety of skills and experiences relevant to meeting the requirements of this role.

We will consider all applicants who meet the minimum requirements regardless of their identity or background. Our current workforce underrepresents Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic candidates within managerial roles, something we look to address.

The closing date for applications is Thursday 15 June at
