    Default job background
    Description

    About The Role

We are looking for experienced Project Directors to join our Customer Connections team based in our North (North West, West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, East Yorkshire, The North East) and Central (M1 corridor – Nottingham to Luton, East Anglia, Norwich, Cambridge & Chelmsford) regions. This is a hybrid role meaning you will split your time between home, office and different sites not just across the region, but across the UK.

As owners of Wales and England's electricity transmission network we are dedicated to achieving Net Zero. In order to make the transition to clean energy we need the right people to help. We're looking for a Project Director to lead a team and manage the planning and delivery of Customer Connection projects.

This is a job for someone who likes fast-paced environments and is excited by the challenge of delivering major infrastructure work within short timescales and a complex system. Someone who wants to make a difference to Net Zero.

As a leader you will be dealing with the multidisciplinary aspects of our transformational projects. One day you might be dealing with a needs case for an early-stage project, the next resolving a procurement or contract issue on a project in delivery, the following day working on a leadership issue such as talent development.

You will also be involved in land issues, stakeholder management, briefing local authorities or government bodies, negotiating with Ofgem or suppliers, making sure the scope of a project is right, and managing risk, financing and scheduling.

You'll be working in a trusting, highly collaborative and safe environment. You'll be welcomed into a positive, inclusive organisation that aims to become one of the most diverse, equitable and inclusive companies of the 21st century.

    What You'll Be Doing

    • You will be accountable for the definition, delivery and successful completion of high value, complex infrastructure projects; safely, to time, budget and quality
    • Driving the throughput of projects from initial customer interest through to physical connection onto the transmission network and project close out.
    • Developing and managing intricate, multi-faceted budgets and investment plans while undertaking regular cost and productivity analysis to track and evaluate performance.
    • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to ensure regulatory funding for a range of customer projects.
    • Recruit, develop and lead diverse, multi-disciplined teams across multiple projects and locations.
    • Providing coaching, guidance, direction and leadership to the project team, while ensuring resources meet budget and business plan objectives.
    • Managing the implementation of opportunities and the management of risk to deliver all agreed outputs within the appropriate regulatory framework.
    • Operate as the key interface and establish collaborative communication channels with all high influence stakeholders, including customers, contractors, and local and parliamentary authorities.
    • Ensure that all project milestones are achieved or surpassed.
    • Direct and integrate the activities of multiple, project operations, ensuring that project efforts are cohesive, consistent, and effective in supporting National Grid's vision, goals, and strategic plan.

    About You

    • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline, or ten years' experience in delivering projects through the full project lifecycle.
    • Considerable breadth and depth of proven experience in construction projects or programme and contract management.
    • In depth financial experience of managing a portfolio of projects including those with large capital budgets.
    • Significant experience working at a senior level within a construction business. Executive experience leading large, complex programmes of work, enabling project teams to operate innovatively, effectively and efficiently.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of leading and influencing large, devolved teams, and gaining support and commitment from a wider operational group.
    • Customer management experience, able to influence customers and partner organisations.
    • Relationship management experience, driving commercial value and performance through major contracts.
    • Experience of leading change and business improvement within a complex organisation, programme or project.
    • Managing complex commercial arrangements, including setting up, negotiating, and managing large contracts.
    • Experience in the Customer journey for the delivery of projects that connect to Electricity Networks

    What You'll Get

    • Salary of £75,000 – £89,000 dependent on capability
    • Full electric company car or cash alternative
    • Annual Performance Based Bonus up to 20% of your base salary
    • 28 days annual leave plus eight statutory days, and the option to buy additional or sell holiday days
    • Generous contributory pension scheme – we will double-match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%
    • Private medical insurance for you and the chance to purchase cover for your partner or family
    • Financial support to help cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions, course fees, books, exam fees and time off for study leave – so long as it's relevant to your role
    • Access to several flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few
    • Family care benefits including a back-up care service for when your usual care arrangements fall through (six paid days each year as standard with the option to purchase further days)
    • Access to numerous apps which support health, fitness and wellbeing
