An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and experienced senior nurse to manage a team in Critical Care at the Queen Victoria Hospital.
We specialise in head and neck surgery, plastics and burns care.Our unit is challenging , exciting and supportive and you will be working as part of highly skilled dynamic and friendly team.
The role requires taking charge of the unit, supervising clinical care, and managing a group of team members. The post holder will assist the Head of Nursing with the continuing responsibility for Critical Care services.To ensure the assessment of care needs, and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care is of a high standard.
The Ward Manager is responsible for sickness and performance management and appraisals.In addition the Ward/Unit Manager will demonstrate compliance with the administrative and clinical systems and use these resources efficiently to support the workforce to fully utilise all their time and skills in the delivery of quality care and enhanced patient experience in line with the trusts strategic objectives.
Maintain adequate staff cover and skill mix on the ward through effective use of staffing rotasEnsure staff compliance with mandatory training and maintain current records.
Responsible for the implementation of risk management policies within the ward/department, including the development, implementation and monitoring of action plans to address identified risks.
Responds within appropriate time frames to patient complaints and concerns and ensure outcomes and action plans are implemented and monitored.
Responsible for ensuring compliance with Trust policies and procedures.In collaboration with the Head of Nursing, implement the Trust grievance/disciplinary policy with the aim of ensuring early identification of performance issues.
Monitor and manage staff sickness/absence following the Trust guidelines, and liaise with the Head of Nursing as necessary.Participate in recruitment and selection of staff within the nursing team ensuring appropriate policies are adhered to.
Monitor performance of staff ensuring that learning needs are identified through personal development plans, appraisal systems and supervised practice.

We specialise in conditions of the eyes (corneoplastics), hands, head and neck cancer and skin cancer, reconstructive breast surgery, maxillofacial surgery and prosthetics, providing regional and national services in these areas of clinical expertise.
In addition, QVH provides a minor injuries unit, expert therapies, a sleep service, and a growing portfolio of community-based services.

Current experience of clinical nursing practice in an acute setting at Band 6 or above
Management and leadership experience
