    Key Responsibilities:

    Regional Practice Management

    The Head of Practice Management is the trusted advisor for the Managing Partner, Finance (West) and the Managing Partner, Real Estate (West), providing senior strategic support on all matters which impact each of the practices within their remit. The role is to provide support and guidance to the UK & EMEA Finance and Real Estate management teams across all aspects of their leadership roles, recognising the many demands on their time and alleviating the pressure by taking work 'off their desks'.

    To enable the support of the wider strategic development and growth of each of the practices, the Head of Practice Management will be expected to build exceptional internal relationships with those listed above and wider, enabling the Managing Partners to stay abreast of the focus of other areas of the firm within the region, something which is critical to ensuring strategic alignment and the implementation of Ambition 25. This collaboration with people outside Finance and Real Estate will be key to the successful delivery of this role.

    The successful candidate will need to gain an intimate understanding of the firm and the culture and business objectives of each of the UK & EMEA Finance and Real Estate Practices and be capable of quickly building credibility with both partners and business services staff. They must be able to work with and through others, forming close working relationships with the practice HR, BD and Finance and Real Estate teams.

    The candidate will also support their Managing Partners by taking ownership for the Practice Group communications (including drafting Global Council and Global Exec papers as well as the financial packs required by the Executive Partner, Practices for the bi-monthly Managing Partner meetings) and they play a role in supporting the firm's wider strategic development, including bringing the practice group perspective and participating in regional or global working groups as required.

    They will coordinate and collaborate with other practice group Heads of / senior leaders (such as Business Finance, BD or HR), on standalone projects and cyclical processes (such as PPRs, partner promotions)

    Providing the principal support for the Managing Partners in progressing the initiatives to deliver on their objectives, the demands will vary between the different practices and regions. This is a varied role which provides exposure to a wide range of tasks from the strategic to the more operational and the candidate therefore needs to be extremely comfortable moving across this working spectrum.
    Responsibilities in more detail (but not limited to):

    Business planning and management

  • Supporting the Managing Partners and Business Development leads to prepare and/or update any annual business plans and relevant practice/sector area business plans as well as ensuring implementation and follow up where necessary
  • Assisting with the production of business cases to support internal promotion, progression and OC processes liaising closely with the BD, HR and Finance functions as required
  • Overarching responsibility for lateral partner recruitment (including leadership of the process and the paperwork) working with group HR, Finance and BD as well as the central recruitment team
  • Leading and delivering individual initiatives as required by the Managing Partners which may include a review of current capability and platform and what might be required to deliver on their respective strategies but may also include any initiatives relating to partners, and/or their teams
  • Providing and co-ordinating the analysis of information enabling the Managing Partners to make informed decisions and this might include financial information, which will require collaboration with Finance or it might relate to information from outside the practices upon which the role will rely on their strong internal network to obtain
  • Working closely with other strategic roles across the firm, but particularly others in practice management roles as well as the Director, Practices to enable the Managing Partners to deliver the priorities for the regions
  • Ensuring the firm's policies and processes are followed and implemented appropriately as required
  • More generally, making things happen in a complex, matrix environment
  • Communications

  • Supporting effective communication within the practice from the Managing Partners to group/practice/office heads and teams
  • Together with the Practice Executive, attending all management and Practice group meetings (where required) ensuring that meetings are well organised, agendas are set, actions are agreed and followed up, and relevant information is cascaded
  • Preparing business reports, draft partner level communications and presentations and/or speeches for the Managing Partners or other partners as required
  • Organising wider regional meetings, conferences etc.
  • Financial performance

  • Supporting the Managing Partners and Business Finance in monitoring the efficient performance of the practices against target, as well as contributing to budget preparation and re-forecasting where required
  • Ensuring the efficient operational management of the practices
  • Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Strong academic background. Educated to degree level with a professional or post-graduate qualification; ideally having a law degree
  • Knowledge, experience and gravitas to engender the confidence of the partners, coupled with the interpersonal skills to make and articulate strategic views and to be able to contribute to decision-making Experience of working with senior stakeholders in a professional services context and being comfortable with complexity and nuance as well as having strong influencing skills
  • Experience of leading change initiatives
  • Proven experience of leading and implementing projects
  • Highly motivated self-starter with strong organisational and project management skills
