    Anatomy Technical Officer

    Job Summary

    The post holder will form part of the team supporting the Human Anatomy Unit including the Pathology Museum. The post holder will provide a range of technical support for teaching and research programmes conducted by the HAU and the General Surgical Skills Programme. The post holder will organise and deliver the technical and administration duties for the Core Surgical Anatomy and Cadaveric Skills training programmes as well as supporting research projects, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching courses run in the HAU.

    The post holder will support the unit with the preparation of prosections and embalming duties and will also assist with the administrative duties of the Unit including the administration of the statutory record keeping required by the Human Tissue Act and health and safety legislation.

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Act as a person designated under the Human Tissue Act
    • Responsibility for the organisation and set up/ set down of the Core Anatomy and Surgical Skills Programmes and assist with the related administration.
    • Assist with the organisation, set up/down and supervision of undergraduate, postgraduate, external courses, research projects, students and visitors using the HAU facilities. Ensure all matters relating to the Human Tissue Act and Health and Safety at Work Act. Ensure adequate security exists in all areas of the Unit to comply with relevant laws and regulations.
    • Preparation of prosections to support teaching for the CSA, undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
    • Provide support for all embalming duties.

    Essential requirements

    • The candidate should have a qualification in (Anatomy/Biological Sciences) or equivalent vocational qualification or relevant laboratory based experience
    • Experience working in an educational/teaching laboratory or similar environment
    • Experience of embalming
    • Experience of prosecting
    • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations (HTA & H&S)
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Ability to prioritise own work in response to deadlines
    • Ability to work as part of a team
    • An open and positive attitude to working in a constantly changing environment, as part of a multi-site activity
    • Flexible approach to working hours. Hours will be scheduled via a ROTA between 08:00 & 18:00hrs
