    The Reward and Benefits team manage the remuneration and benefits package for staff and officers across the organisation. The team strives to have innovative reward strategies that attract and retain talented individuals and recognises excellent performance and behaviours to ensure the force remains resilient and can deliver its strategic objectives. We work to give back to all the hard-working staff and volunteers who support West Midlands Police in the best ways we can, to ensure they feel valued and appreciated within our organisation.

    Why we need your help:

    The Reward and Benefits team are a small but busy unit, seeking support with the following duties:

    The promotion and maintenance of our employee benefits platform and salary sacrifice schemes. We require a support assistant to manage the day to day administrative tasks that support these schemes, and to answer general queries from staff and officers. You will be working with a number of colleagues, helping you to improve your interpersonal and communication skills. Through the work you complete you will also gain a better understanding for working as part of a team and gain knowledge of working for a well-respected organisation. This role will improve a number of skills that will make you more employable, whilst also ensuring that our platform is kept running efficiently and effectively.

    Development and maintenance of an internal cost of living portal, which provides signposting and guidance around money saving tips and offers for our Police Officers, Staff and Volunteers. At a time when the cost of living has become a big problem, we need your help to ensure we are all aware of the best deals available. As the support administrator, it will be your task to find these offers, document them and work with internal departments to get these offers displayed on our hub, while simultaneously making sure the information on the hub already is up to date. This work matters, and your support will directly help families get through this difficult time.

    Tasks will include:

  • Uploading and removing data in bulk onto our systems
  • Working on creating and displaying promotions that will be used both internally and on our system.
  • Researching content for the cost of living portal, drawing on our internal resources, and also horizon scanning from external sources, to collate information for topical issues.
  • Working with our digital team around maintenance of the portal content
  • Pro-active communication with members of WMP to resolve issues and respond to their queries
  • Support in person an online events, both with the planning, promoting and co-ordinating; and attendance at the event to support a cost of living stall.
  • Provision of regular updates both digitally and by post, using the mail merge and distribution lists

  • Essential information:

  • The role will entail working at our Police Headquarters in Birmingham City Centre, for 4 hours per week on a Thursday. There may be flexibility around working days once fully trained and competent in the role.

  • For relevant roles, we will apply for an Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service check – having a criminal record isn't a barrier to volunteering, this is simply to protect children/vulnerable people we work with
  • Where appropriate, volunteers should use public transport. We will cover travel expenses to a maximum daily limit of a 1 day network Zones 1-5 Unlimited regional bus*, tram and train travel within the specified West Midlands rail zones )
  • Mileage will be in reimbursed at p per mile using the Michelin guide
  • Volunteers are eligible to claim £5. towards their lunch if they volunteer over 4 hours on given day.
  • This role description is intended as an indicator of general areas of activity and will be amended with any changing needs of West Midlands Police. It is expected that the volunteer will be flexible, using this document as a framework.

  • Good communications skills & a good level of written and spoken English
  • Reliable with good time-keeping skills
  • Happy to work independently or as part of a team
  • Attention to detail and good observational skills
  • Administration skills (Microsoft Office, Internet)
  • Commitment: We are looking for volunteers to commit at least hours per month ideally for a minimum of months.

    Hours: 4 hours per week on a Thursday. There may be flexibility around working days once fully trained and competent in the role.

    Vetting: The role will not commence until the volunteer have been security & DBS cleared; a thorough vetting process is in place for all volunteer roles.
