Technical Director - London, United Kingdom - Nearform

    Default job background
    Description

This is a remote permanent position for those based in UK.

    What does the job entail:

"As a Technical Director, I have overall responsibility for a substantial team of developers working on customer projects using an agile approach. Our one-team concept means that we work hand-in-hand with customers and avoid all of the common customer-vendor relationship problems. I have relished the challenge of working on large-scale international projects that have generated major revenue for our customers and repeat business for us."

As a Technical Director, you will work on a number of client teams to deliver projects, identify new opportunities and advise as a senior technical leader on the client team. You will work closely with NearForm's clients to help inform their strategy and to ensure our teams are delivering high-quality solutions aligned to our client's technology vision.

You will ensure our work with clients is aligned to NearForm's growth goals, and you will play a pivotal role in identifying new opportunities and winning work, supporting the sales team in developing new business opportunities.

You will be closely involved with stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring that software is developed in a way that can be scaled, monitored, supported and maintained. You will be expected to clearly communicate product strategy, plans, objectives and performance measures, tailoring communication as appropriate to ensure that it is relevant to the audience.

You will work with multidisciplinary teams, potentially across multiple clients, in the design, development and delivery of high-performance software systems, and ensure that teams are formed with the skills for resolving issues throughout the lifecycle of each client engagement. You will work with Technical Leads , coaching and supporting them to help steer their teams' success. You will also have responsibility for hiring and mentoring NearForm engineers.

You will have a growth mindset, and, although this does not have to be a hands-on technical role, you will remain abreast of the latest digital technologies and software development practices. You will apply this knowledge to help you shape technology architectures and roadmaps. You will work with other NearForm technical directors to provide technical leadership and direction to peers and colleagues and define, document and distribute best practices and standards.

As a technology leader within NearForm, you will be expected to maintain and grow your professional network. Writing blog posts, speaking at conferences and teaching at workshops is encouraged. You will be expected to contribute to thought leadership, content and events and should have a proven track record of doing so.

    What we are looking for:

At NearForm we value speed, cost, quality, security, collaboration and innovation, and we are looking for someone who will help NearForm grow and expand. If you are missing one of the following, don't let that stop you applying:

    • Experience working directly with clients and users
    • Experience leading projects and working on professional software solutions
    • Experience managing software engineering teams
    • Previous or current experience developing high quality software in an enterprise environment
    • Deep understanding of technical consultancy practices (such as design thinking, digital transformation, solution delivery, architecture, development processes, remote team collaboration, management and processes)
    • Deep understanding of agile ways of working
    • Deep understanding of test-driven development and testing best practices
    • Deep understanding of developing for operational concerns (such as monitoring, performance testing, security considerations, accessibility, GDPR)
    • Deep understanding of development of architectures that scale
    • Deep understanding of cloud technologies
    • Drive to deliver outcomes for our customers
    • Empathy and people skills

    Optional Experience:

If you have any experience in the following areas, please do mention it, as whilst it is optional it is highly desired:

    • Experience working with sales teams
    • Experience recruiting, forming and running teams remotely
    • Experience mentoring, coaching and developing software engineers
    • Experience of working with multiple cloud providers
    • Experience speaking at conferences, presenting workshops or writing blog posts or books

    Benefits

    • Work remotely; we have a genuine dedication to work/life balance.
    • Work flexibly; we appreciate there are more important things in life than work so our flexible working culture allows you to work around what matters - school run, no problem
    • The Wellness Hub: We have a genuine commitment to fostering/improving NearFormers' wellbeing; we offer resources and support, including a NearForm advice line which offers confidential support for anything from relationship issues to staying healthy.

Please get in touch to discuss remuneration.

Although we are widely dispersed, NearFormers are a tightly-knit team. We trust one another and care about our colleagues. Building on our open-source origins, we promote the sharing of thoughts, knowledge and ideas.
