    Role description: Pay & Benefits Manager
    Reporting to: UK TSS Head of Pay, Projects and Systems
    Location: Birmingham, some UK travel required

    Working as part of EY's UK Talent Shared Services (UK TSS), the Pay & Benefits Manager leads the operational delivery of the outsourced payroll and flexible benefits arrangements.

    The Opportunity
    The successful candidate will contribute to the overall development of UK TSS's service proposition with a focus on driving excellence from its third-party providers related to pay and benefits delivery. Intrinsic to the role is the management of cyclical activities, payroll processes and/or change initiatives, specifically those that are driven by legislative change. The role interacts with senior Finance stakeholders across UK and Ireland and the Regional Heads of Talent , Reward, Employee Relations and Pensions.

    Your key responsibilities

  • You will lead the day-to-day relationships with the Firm's payroll and flexible benefits providers on behalf of UK and Ireland (UKI) Region and proactively develop the third party outsourced arrangements working closely with key stakeholders including Finance, Regional Contracts Team/Global Procurement and the Regional Talent Team, to achieve a market leading proposition.
  • You will be responsible for the interpretation of pay and benefits legislation through to assessing impact and change requirements as required.
  • You are expected to ensure robustness of all auditable transactions linked to payroll , pay release, payroll bank account, trusted sources and procedural documents including the management of the outsourced payroll budget. In addition, you will develop and lead payroll accuracy methodology across the UK TSS ensuring payroll accuracy targets are sustained.
  • You will develop and maintain senior stakeholder relationships with Heads of Finance, Regional Talent team leaders, UKI Employment Taxes team, Regional Contracts/Global Procurement and other stakeholder communities.
  • You will be required to respond to third party escalations, queries/problems on a timely basis ensuring that service recovery and/or contractual obligations for poor service are triggered to ensure satisfactory resolution and commercial rigour.
  • You will be expected to anticipate, lead and deliver legislative change, drawing in regional stakeholders, additional resource and support from the UK TSS Project team as appropriate. Conversely, provide SMR knowledge and resources to support regional policy as required , Gender Pay Gap, Pay Ratio reporting, Mergers and Acquisitions.
  • You may collaborate with the UKI HR Operations Systems Specialist to ensure that interdependencies and interfaces within the Global HR Systems Infrastructure are working effectively and automation opportunities are fully identified/exploited
  • You will support the UK TSS Leadership team and Managers in reviewing UK TSS scope of services, identifying opportunities to enhance the service offering, reduce costs and improve productivity, as well as adapting to business need/change.
  • As a UK TSS manager you will also contribute to UK TSS initiatives and support the centre to maintain its reputation for the delivery of exceptional client service.
  • Skills and attributes for success

  • Able to work under pressure to prioritise workload and demonstrate flexibility to delivering project tasks
  • Commercial exposure to the running of procurement RFP's, contract and services agreement creation
  • Able to demonstrate initiative and vision in respect of supplier development, operating standards, robust numerical capability, commercial outlook and attention to detail
  • Ability to constructively challenge peers and robust decision making
  • Ability to influence and manage stakeholder relationships adapting to change, flexing style and approach
  • To qualify for the role you must have

  • A proven track record in Shared Services and/or management of outsourced services
  • Extensive knowledge of HMRC PAYE, DC Pensions, employee benefits policy and related legislation
  • Proven track record in successful team management and coaching experience
  • Strong organisational and planning skills with an intelligent, proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to forge strong working relationships within UK Talent Shared Services (UK TSS) and internal/external teams.
  • Degree level or equivalent experience
  • Ideally, you'll also have

  • CIPP or CIPD qualified.
