    We are looking to recruit a part-time Trainee Anatomical Pathology Technician to support the Mortuary service based at Lincoln County Hospital, Lincoln.

    After initial training, the successful candidate will also be required to work across other Path Links Mortuary and Pathology Services that includes Grantham, Boston, Scunthorpe and Grimsby as required.

    The successful candidate will be expected to work towards and pass the Level 3 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology, transition to Band 4 will occur on completion.

    Normal working hours will be Mon – Fri 07:30hrs to 12:00hrs (excluding bank holidays) and flexibility is required to cover other Path Links Mortuaries across Lincolnshire as required.

    This job will include training to assist with post mortem examinations, preparation and operation of a mortuary, dealing with funeral directors and relatives, and direct care of the deceased.

    Therefore, ideal candidates will have a caring and compassionate nature and will preferably have previous post mortem room experience and experience of dealing with the deceased and/or bereaved families.

    Candidates will additionally have good numeracy, literacy and communication skills preferably with a minimum of 5 GCSE or equivalent qualifications including mathematics, English and a science subject.

    A driver's licence is essential.

    To keep accurate records of property/valuables/cash that may accompany the deceased, their removal when appropriate and subsequent safe keeping, in line with Trust Policy.

    Entry of deceased patient data onto the mortuary registration system
    To prepare the post mortem room and equipment for post mortem examination
    Undertake training to assist the medical staff with post mortem examinations to include
    Disinfection of all tools and surfaces in the post mortem room after each post mortem session.
    Assistance to medical staff in the removal of tissue for donor purposes.
    ~ To attend to the disinfection, cleaning and general maintenance of the mortuary and equipment.

    Driving License


    • GCSE or O level equivalent in 5 subjects, including English, mathematics and a science subject.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access and Outlook)
    Experience of working within a mortuary, with the recently bereaved or within the funeral industry

    The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
