About The Role
We are looking for a person to join our friendly and passionate Environment Mitigation Delivery Team at Dorset Council. With a recent £4.6M government grant from the Local Nutrient Mitigation Fund to deliver nutrient mitigation across the Poole Harbour catchment, we are looking for someone who is personable, qualified, and can hit the ground running.
Although Dorset Council has an existing approach to funding and delivering nitrogen mitigation, this approach needs to be reviewed and updated to take account of Natural England's latest guidance. Dorset Council is moving to a market-based approach to the delivery of mitigation measures across Poole Harbour catchment and our other four catchments. The main purpose of this role is to lead, develop, and manage a nutrient mitigation credit market across all the effected catchments in the Dorset Council area, working with other teams, third parties, landowners, and other key stakeholders. The role reports to a Steering Group and is line-managed by the Environment Mitigation Delivery Team leader.
In addition, this role will be responsible for working with a wide variety of stakeholders to work on grey water solutions, e.g., septic tank upgrades.
Further Information
You will have experience working in this field or the relevant fields of mitigation delivery and credit markets. You will be solution-focused, enjoy resolving complex problems, and enjoy working across a wide variety of teams and with different stakeholders. Be good at working with data, have a good understanding of financial restrictions on Local Government and have experience in commercial markets around mitigation. Be comfortable working independently as well as part of a team, and be able to communicate clearly and problem solve. You will ideally have some experience in project management, land purchase, negotiation, and planning.
You will need to have a flexible approach to work, travelling to meetings and site visits, working in the office and at home, and working at evening and/or weekend meetings if required. It is necessary to have a full driving license and access to a vehicle.
You must have a vehicle (or transport we deem suitable) available for use as needed.
This post is a full-time (37 hours per week) fixed-term contract for initially three years.

About Us
The Environment Mitigation Delivery Team is currently made up of the Environment Mitigation Delivery Team Leader (who coordinates Chesil and the Fleet Mitigation & the Bird and Recreation Initiative), the Bird and Recreation Initiative Warden, an Air Quality Delivery Officer, and a Senior Nutrient Mitigation Project Officer.
There is another Senior Nutrient Mitigation Project officer within the team who will be working alongside you; however, their role will be to lead on Poole Harbour Catchment nature-based solutions in relation to the Local Nutrient Mitigation Fund, land purchases, and third-party agreements with landowners and farmers.
