    Consultant Plastic Surgeon - Sub-speciality: Breast Reconstruction and General Plastic Surgery

    Barts Health NHST Trust are looking for a substantive consultant 10 PA post to join a current body of twelve substantive and three locum Consultant posts within the Plastic Surgery Department. We have a well-established plastic surgery unit which serves numerous spokes from the main base at the Royal London Hospital.

    This post will be focused on breast reconstruction, in particular free tissue breast reconstruction in both the immediate and delayed setting. To achieve so, the successful candidate should be able to independently undertake microsurgical breast reconstruction and be experienced in all other adjunct breast procedures required as part of the breast reconstruction journey. The appointed surgeon will be expected to work collaboratively with the extended Bart's Breast Cancer Network within the context of the Breast MDT. We are seeking a candidate who will additionally contribute to the provision of the general plastic surgery workload.

    Main duties of the job

    The Royal London Hospital is the primary location with weekly clinic and operating. The post also includes a weekly clinic at Bart's Hospital as part of the joint Breast Cancer Clinic/MDT.

    Experience working within an MTC environment and trauma microsurgery will be essential as the role is also on the on-call for plastic surgery. The new appointee will be expected to function as an integral member of the trauma multi-disciplinary team based at Royal London with contribution to both lower limb and upper limb trauma out of hours

  • MBBS or equivalent, ATLS
  • GMC registered with full license to practice
  • FRCS (plas) or equivalent CCT (or within 3 months of date of interview or on specialist register)
  • Desirable

  • Higher Degree MD/MS/PhD/MPhil
  • Clinical Expertise in Specialty/Sub-Specialty
    Essential

  • Broad exposure to Plastic and Reconstructive surgery with recent UK experience and familiarity with UK hospitals
  • Fellowship in hand surgery.
  • Extensive experience in free tissue breast reconstruction.
  • Extensive experience in management of congenital and acquired breast conditions.
  • Experience of dealing with complex trauma including lower limb and hand replants and other microsurgical trauma reconstruction
  • Experience in diagnosis and treatment of complex reconstruction conditions
  • Desirable

  • Extensive experience in trauma reconstruction including microsurgery
  • Multiple fellowships in microsurgery
  • Experience in Lymphoedema Surgery
  • Further training, teaching, management and audit

  • Evidence of recent relevant recent training demonstrating commitment to CPD
  • Experience teaching and coaching junior team members in plastic surgery and trauma management.
