    A Gastroenterology Junior Clinical Fellow position has arisen. The post is designed to deliver clinical care to in-patients (IP) under the responsibility of the Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Consultants at St George's Hospital.This represents an opportunity for an enthusiastic doctor to join a dynamic clinical team in Gastroenterology. The appointee will join four Gastroenterology registrars, IMTs and FY doctors and work with 15 consultants, in a highly supportive environment with consultant presence on the unit between 09:00 to 13:00, which offers the ideal setting for a trainee to develop further the required skills of a Gastroenterology registrar.The majority of the time will be spent on normal working days (08:30 - 17:00, with a half day off on alternative weeks) on Allingham ward (the home Gastroenterology ward) and relevant outlying wards, including assessment and review of Gastroenterology IP referrals in other areas of the Trust, e.g. AMU.

    Main duties of the job

    There will be the opportunity to develop other areas of interest and this may include taking part in specialty Gastroenterology/Hepatology/Nutrition clinics, endoscopy and involvement in teaching of under- and post-graduate students or participation in service improvement projects.There will be the opportunity to develop other areas of interest and this may include taking part in specialty Gastroenterology/Hepatology/Nutrition clinics, endoscopy and involvement in teaching of under- and post-graduate students or participation in service improvement projects.As well as the Gastroenterology department offering the full range of inpatient, outpatient and endoscopy services to the local community, St Georges Hospital is also a national endoscopy training centre and the SW London Bowel Cancer Screening Centre, the SW London regional centre for intestinal failure and HPN, and the regional hub for viral hepatitis. The Department is also supported at a clinical level by specialist nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, nurse endoscopists, clinical SpRs, research SpRs and a physician associate.The postholder will be a core member of the Gastroenterology team helping to deliver and develop the inpatient service, in conjunction with the staff members listed above.

    Essential

  • Competent in relevant procedures, including ascitc drains
  • Able to prioritise clinical need
  • Able to work independently, but aware of own limitations and knows when to ask for help from consultant or colleague in other specialties
  • Understands principles of patient confidentiality and data protection
  • Understands principles of audit
  • Computer literate
  • Desirable

  • Experience of ultrasound
  • Has a critical and inquiring approach to knowledge and experience

  • ECDL proficient or equivalent
  • Qualifications and Training

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full registration with GMC
  • > 12 months experience working in Emergency or Acute General Medicine
  • To have achieved provider status in at least one of ALS, ATLS and APLS
  • Postgraduate diploma (MRCP, MCEM, MRCS)
  • Desirable

  • Additional relevant clinical experience, preferably including working at middle grade level in Gastroenterology
  • Life support course instructor
