We are seeking an outstanding researcher to join the Department of Non-communicable Disease Epidemiology and work with the NCD Genomics group at the MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit. We are looking for genetic epidemiologists, computation geneticists, bioinformaticians, genomic data scientists who can work on large-scale genomic datasets with collaborators at the University of Cambridge, University of Witwatersrand and others globally. Our work leverages big data in genomics for medically crucial human diseases to understand the contribution of genetic variations to disease. We anticipate that our findings will yield insights that will guide the prevention and treatment of disease by shorten the pathway to enable precision medicine in Africa.
The successful applicant will have a postgraduate degree and ideally a PhD in genetic epidemiology, bioinformatics or a related discipline. They are expected to be able to direct research independently and have a good breadth of knowledge of computational genomic research methodologies and background including writing research papers, support grant proposal and supervise PhD students in a supportive environment.
The post is full-time 35 hours per week, 1 FTE and fixed-term for 12 months in the first instance. The post is funded by the NIH Data Science for Health Discovery and Innovation in Africa (DS-I Africa) Initiative and is available immediately.
The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale Grade 6 in the range range £43,947 - £49,908 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary "Wellbeing Days". Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in Uganda.
