    Description

    The Role:

    This is a fixed term contract, LLoyd's market experience is essential, we would consider individuals who can work on a part time basis.

    The primary purpose of this role is to act as the key focal point for all technical matters within the underwriting operations function as well as overseeing and leading all aspects of the functions reporting. Reporting to the Head of Underwriting Operations, the role will be responsible to lead the technical side of the underwriting operations department as well as ensuring any projects are handled smoothly and the Head of Underwriting Operations is provided with the right level of information to support the smooth operational running of the overall function. They will also be required to positively represent the underwriting operations function in all their dealings with stakeholders internally and externally ensuring that there is a constant focus on the provision of excellent service to all colleagues across Canopius globally and a true centre of technical excellence is maintained in London, which is recognised for its high standards and overall domain capabilities.

    Responsibilities:

  • Act as the key focal point for all technical queries for internal and external stakeholders
  • Engage with underwriting teams and build good relationships with the relevant teams
  • Lead ad hoc tasks and projects as directed by the Head of Underwriting Operations
  • Provide expert oversight, assistance, and direction to the team and / or wider business on all underwriting operations related technical queries
  • Work closely with the Underwriting Governance team to ensure governance requirements are enforced
  • Mentor / develop technical Underwriting Operations Analyst within the team
  • Ensure the team and wider business is kept up to date in terms of any technical market news
  • Act as a senior source of knowledge and point of query triage/resolution for inhouse and outsourced team members
  • Make evidence-based, accountable decisions and liaise closely with all lines of business
  • Maintain excellent communication with team members, the wider management team, and stakeholders
  • Accountable for team quality standards including conducting and documenting root cause reviews
  • Produce as required high quality reports and supporting commentary and lead all aspects of the functions reporting
  • Undertake as appropriate auditing of key tasks to ensure that quality standards are met
  • Develop and maintain a strong stakeholder engagement model with focus on proactive communication and 'can do' approach to resolution of service issues identified
  • Maintain a close link with the Change and IT teams, providing domain insight, guidance, input and challenge on all key projects and initiatives
  • Represent the function at relevant internal and external committees as required
  • Actively contribute to change initiatives and provide recommendations for continuous improvement

    • Skills and Experience:

  • Confident, self-starter, capable of showing initiative and can demonstrate achievement
  • Excellent communicator, able to convey the message appropriately and ensure it is understood by the audience
  • Extensive knowledge of data entry and reading slips essential (within the London Market)
  • Extensive knowledge of different classes of insurance underwritten within the London Market
  • Confident in decision making, taking into account multiple viewpoints and ability to explain your thinking in the right way depending on the stakeholder
  • General knowledge of end-to-end life cycle of a policy
  • Ability to produce, analyse and leverage MI to drive performance improvements
  • Strong organisation skills: ability to work under pressure, manage and prioritise key tasks and focus on delivering them within agreed deadlines
  • Strong awareness of risk and the importance of controls and escalations
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prepare and interpret data meaningfully
