    Summary: You will have managerial responsibility for the Consumer Science (CS) sensory panels and the sensory facility in the Bournville R&D site. You will plan and execute sensory projects using your fundamental understanding of sensory evaluation, analysis and data collection. You will assess for panel data compliance and take corrective measures when necessary and utilise and pilot different sensory methodologies to support the function.

    How you will contribute

    You will advise, plan and conduct sensory projects for the Function. Following creation and alignment of training sessions with the CS Scientist, you will moderate the training/warm up panel sessions, deliver results and handover/provide feedback to your CS partner. You will monitor panellist data and complete panel performance checks applying your knowledge of statistics to analyse, draw conclusions and report results. In this role, you will lead and manage descriptive panels, recruiting, training, screening, and managing panelist's performance, you may also manage the work of the Sensory Technicians. You will also manage the sensory schedule ensuring panel time is used efficiently. You will interact with your peers, junior developers/marketing and other colleagues. You will also work on teams when new sensory methodologies and capabilities are being evaluated, proposed and implemented, working with other consumer scientists, junior developers and other cross-functional colleagues. You will have responsibility for the sensory facility, ensuring the efficiency and safety of the sensory laboratory, including maintenance of the quality system, making sure that procedures are followed properly and the highest standards of work and environment, health and safety are maintained.

    What you need to know about this position: A key responsibility of this role will be to lead and manage a team of Consumer Science Panelists.It will also include:

    -Overseeing the Consumer Science lab

    -Supervising technicians

    -You will be responsible for ensuring samples are on site prior to testing

    -Sample preparation is carried out according to best practices and training plans are executed according to agreement

    -Ensuring software is correctly programmed and data analysed according to best practice.

    -Following best practice for panel moderation, profiling and panel performance checks

    -You may also lead small projects

    What extra ingredients you will bring: In addition to the competencies above ("what you will bring") this role requires personal confidence and strong interpersonal skills. It also requires curiosity to learn about consumers and understand chocolate product consumption.

    Education / Certifications: Degree holder preferable or Sensory Qualification.

    GCSE Maths and English or equivalent, candidates need to be proficient with computers and using software.

    Job specific requirements: Strong knowledge of Consumer Science panels ways of working and panel moderation is required. Experience in leading or managing a team is desired. Experience with Sensory Software is desirable (RedJade, Compusense)

    Travel requirements: Bournville based but with travel to Wokingham site during 2024; occasional other travel may be required.

    Work schedule: Monday – Friday Full-time
