Salary: £40,600 - £61,000 + performance-related bonus + various benefits to support your finances, wellbeing, and family.

SSEN Transmission plays a crucial role in the UK's journey to net zero. Over the next few years, our network will play a vital role in connecting and carrying the power required to decarbonize the UK's electricity network, helping achieve the country's net zero goal. With a projected investment program of over £20bn in the next decade, our business is rapidly expanding to deliver the largest investment package ever seen in Scotland's electricity system.
As the Sustainability Engagement Lead at SSEN Transmission, you'll analyze data and create stories to communicate our impact on people, the environment, and the economy to various internal and external audiences. You will be responsible for preparing our Annual Sustainability Report and contributing to other external communications on sustainability matters. Additionally, you'll coordinate internal sustainability initiatives and a network of sustainability champions, managing our sustainability SharePoint platform. This role reports to our Sustainability Strategy Manager within the Sustainable Economics Team.
The responsibilities of the Sustainability Engagement Lead include:
- Lead internal sustainability engagement
Act as a primary contact for colleagues at SSEN Transmission on sustainability issues, offering proactive assistance through resources on our Sustainability SharePoint. Establish a network of sustainability champions and a community of practice, organizing internal events to boost engagement on sustainability topics.
- Lead Annual Sustainability Reporting
Oversee the annual project for preparing our Annual Sustainability Report, which involves analyzing data, crafting narratives, creating content, coordinating reviews by colleagues and designers, obtaining approval from the Executive Committee and Board, and managing the report's launch and communication.
- Lead supplier engagement programs
Collaborate with capital project teams and procurement to design and implement engagement initiatives with our key suppliers on sustainability matters. These programs will aim to assist suppliers in meeting sustainability requirements and sharing best practices, challenges, and opportunities in meeting our sustainability objectives.
- Lead sustainability engagement with SSE Group & other Transmission Owners
Coordinate efforts with sustainability counterparts across SSE Group, including leading SSEN Transmission's involvement in the SSE sustainability community of practice. Facilitate engagement with other Transmission Owners on sustainability topics.
- Lead sustainability governance
Offer administrative support to our internal sustainability governance bodies, ensuring effective oversight and accountability of key sustainability issues by the relevant individuals and bodies.
What do I need?
To be eligible for this role, it is essential that you possess:
- An in-depth grasp of sustainability, including knowledge of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the broader sustainability landscape for businesses.
- Experience in preparing sustainability reports in compliance with relevant reporting standards such as GRI, SASB, ISSB, TCFD, and ESRS.
- Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to build solid working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including the capacity to deliver engaging presentations to various audiences and generate high-quality reports, papers, and communication materials.
- Proficiency in managing communication platforms like SharePoint or similar tools.
