    Main duties of the job

    Supporting the Directorate's management team by providing comprehensive and flexible administrative support across Neurosciences.

    Co-ordinating the department's response to morbidity and mortality (M&M) events and meetings, internal audits, and national audits, including those associated with the National Neurosurgical Audit Project (NNAP).

    Administrating the operational and quality aspects of the Medical School programmes for medical undergraduate clinical placements, liaising with clinical teachers, students and University of Sheffield Medical School staff.

    Supporting the academic clinical leads in the organisation and delivery of medical students' education and clinical placements.

    Supporting the Service Co-ordinators with Directorate administration as requested.

    About us

    The Directorate of Neurosciences forms part of the Head & Neck Group along with the , Oral & Dental and Ophthalmology services.

    The Directorate of Neurosciences is one of the busiest and most varied Directorates in the Trust and patients travel from across the region and country to be treated here. Neurosciences comprises of neurology, neurosurgery, neurorehabilitation, neuro-psychotherapy, neurophysiology, stereotactic radiosurgery and TIA/stroke services.

    Pre-COVID19, Neurosurgery's 2019 activity contract was 13,000 out-patients and 1,650 elective surgical procedures. The service currently employs 17 consultants, not including the junior medical staff or speciality doctors. We also have a large range of nurses, support workers and other health professionals that support the medical team, some of whom also treat patients in clinics of their own. The Directorate's annual budget is in excess of £35 million.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • GCSE maths & English at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent)
  • Diploma / NVQ level 4 / equivalent qualification or A-level / NVQ level 3 plus demonstrable relevant experience equivalent to level 4

  • Demonstrable track record achieving deadlines and targets.
  • Comprehensive understanding of procedures and policies for using and maintaining databases
  • Evidence of developing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of professionals and service users/customers.
  • Evidence of developing and maintaining effective working relationships with healthcare professionals, medical and administrative staff.
  • Experience using databases to manage information as well as share and analyse data.
  • Excellent analytical skills and experience of data management data analysis, interpretation of results and basic statistics.
