    Job Purpose

    The post holder will lead and undertake world-class research consistent with the research strategy of the School and College.

    The post holder will build an internationally competitive and externally grant funded research program, publishing high impact research papers, presenting at international meetings, and develop their experience in review and advisory groups and panels.

    In addition, the post holder will supervise and teach students at undergraduate and postgraduate level, supervise post-doctoral researchers, contribute to curriculum development, and undertake appropriate administration as requested by the Director of School.

    The post holder will contribute to business developments and public policy debates concerned with the subject specialism. Main Duties and Responsibilities Research 1.

    To contribute fully to developing and enhancing the research profile and international standing of the School of Infection and Immunity through developing an extensive track record of publications, delivering invited and reviewed talks at national and international conferences and workshops taking part in review and/or grant panels at national/international level.2.

    To develop on existing, ongoing grant and/or fellowship funding.3.

    To develop a recognised research programme aligned with the Centre's strategic areas by developing appropriate resources, recruiting and maintaining a highly productive research group, and securing external funding through grants and/or fellowships.4.

    To be involved in the integration of Immunology research with other appropriate specialisms and cross cutting research beacons at the University of Glasgow.5.

    To proactively collaborate with other Schools and bodies. Provide leadership through research collaboration, supervision and mentorship.6. To foster good relations with relevant sponsors, including reporting research findings.7. To supervise and mentor research students through to timely completion of their degrees.8. To engage in external academic activities in accordance with School research strategy which enhance the College's international profile.9. To undertake external PhD examining.10.

    To undertake appropriate administrative responsibility as required by the Head of Centre including but not limited to, selection, assessment, mentoring and development of post-doctoral and pre-doctoral research scientists.11.

    To contribute to the academic community through the editorship/review process of internationally respected journals and/or serving on professional bodies/research board(s).

    For Appointment at Grade 9: 12. Evidence of a maintained record of publication, research profile and grant income Teaching 13. To fully participate in teaching both undergraduates and postgraduates, as required by the Director of School.14. To contribute to Graduate School activities with the aim of broadening the skills and experience of postgraduate students.15. To design and lecture on modules in undergraduate/postgraduate courses, to a high standard, in line with research and departmental goals.16. To assess student work (coursework, exams) in timely and effective way, providing constructive feedback where required.17. To propose and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate team and individual projects.

    For Appointment at Grade 9: 18. Where required, to contribute to development of new degree programmes.19. To perform external examining, as appropriate. Administration 20. To participate fully in appropriate committees and contribute to the management of Centre/School operations.21. To actively contribute to the development of Centre/School strategy, priorities, direction and success.22. To represent Centre/School activities externally from the School and University.23. To contribute to the efficient administration and servicing of the department as required by the Director of School.

    For Appointment at Grade 9: 24. To contribute to School/College working groups, as appropriate.25. To participate in School/College performance reviews.

    Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience Knowledge/Qualifications Essential: A1. PhD in relevant subject area.
    A2. Developing track record of published research aligned with the Centre's strategic areasA3. Distinction in scholarship and research.

    Proven University teaching ability, including assessment and interest in curriculum development
    Experience Essential: E1. Academic/professional experience in subject specialism.
    E2. Proven experience of successfully securing research grant funding.
    E3. Proven experience of successful project management.
    E4. Contributions to scientific/learned societies.

    For Appointment at Grade 9: F5. Experience of lecturing at university level.
    F6. Experience of teaching, supervision and examination of PhD students and researchers at postgraduate and doctoral level.

    Experience of research leadership Terms and Conditions Salary will be Grade 8/9, £48,350 - £56,021/£57,696 - £64,914 per annum This post is full time and open ended.
