    We celebrate Shakespeare's transformative impact on the world by conducting a radical theatrical experiment. Inspired and informed by the unique historic playing conditions of two beautiful iconic theatres, our diverse programme of work harnesses the power of performance, cultivates intellectual curiosity and excites learning to make Shakespeare accessible for all.

    The Access Advisor, Theatre & Education will work closely with the Theatre & Production and Education teams. They will advise and support in making the Globe accessible for creative and Education freelancers, support the planning and lead on the delivery of a comprehensive programme of assisted performances (captioned, audio described, relaxed and BSL). The role will support the development of creative projects to ensure Access is considered and applied, and they will develop and deliver training, frameworks, and advice for these teams.

    As part of ensuring Shakespeare is accessible for all, we are on a continuous improvement journey to embed and develop Access at Shakespeare's Globe. Responsibility for Access at the Globe sits centrally within the People & Culture department, with Access Advisors based in the Theatre and Ticketing & Sales departments. This role reports into the Theatre department, with close working relationship with the Education teams, as well as being part of the team for advising and supporting teams across the whole organisation.

    Responsibilities

  • Lead on access advice and training across the Theatre and Production teams, Education teams and the team that develops Guided Tours and Exhibition, following the strategy set by the Access Manager
  • Discuss access considerations for show companies during the induction process and throughout the production process and advise company management, producers and creative teams accordingly.
  • With the Access Advisor, Audiences, support the planning and lead on the delivery of a comprehensive programme of assisted performances, liaising with relevant departments across the Globe.
  • Advise on best practice and support the Education teams in the delivery of accessible workshops, public events, Education activities, and projects.
  • Support the Education teams with the development of their accessible offerings.
  • Together with the Access Manager and Access Advisor, Audiences, develop and maintain a preferred supplier list of freelance access support workers, British Sign Language interpreters, Captioners, and Audio Describers.
  • In collaboration with the Access Manager and Theatre General Manager, find new and innovative ways to make the artist experience more accessible and inclusive.
  • Work closely with the Head of People & Culture, Access Manager and Access Advisor, Audiences, to evaluate access provision across the Globe, to ensure consistency of practice.For a full list of key responsibilities, please download the full job pack by clicking the 'apply' button.

    Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Experience Access provisions in an arts or education venue, or equivalent understanding and knowledge.
  • A strong and understanding of the Social Model of Disability and its application in the workplace.
  • A working knowledge of the Equality Act 2010 and understanding of Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) practice and delivery.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to break down barriers in communication.
  • The ability to build and maintain effective relationships.
  • A demonstrable commitment to widening theatre accessibility for Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people.
  • Experience on or knowledge of delivering assisted performance within a multidisciplinary venue.
  • An understanding of the Access to Work scheme and how to support application writing.
  • The ability to influence and support change and create positive impact in a multi-faceted organisation.
  • A proactive, pragmatic and practical approach.
  • Tactful, diplomatic, and able to maintain confidentiality for sensitive information.
  • Ability to work without supervision and take initiative.
