    Default job background
    Description

    About the role

National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is at the heart of energy in the UK. The electricity that our network provides gets the nation to work, powers schools and brings energy to life. Our network connects the nation, so it's essential that it's continually evolving, advancing, and improving. In NGET we are passionate about both operating safely and providing a highly reliable quality of supply for our customers.

As Network Design Manager you'll be at the forefront of defining the largest network upgrade programme in Great Britain in a lifetime. You will set the direction and vision of the future network design and oversee its technical development into the clean, fair and affordable transmission network that England and Wales needs. We're looking for someone who shares our passion for building the network of the future now - someone who will take great pride in ensuring it is fit for purpose and meets the needs of our customers, consumers, and stakeholders.

To fulfil this responsibility, we're looking for someone who will actively engage with industry and stakeholders on our network plans to gain insight, align and refine plans, and influence direction for the common good of the nation. In doing so, you'll maintain and enhance NGET's standing in the development of whole system solutions, through strategic relationships, consultations, and active cross-sector collaboration. Actively identifying opportunities to maximise network capability, incorporating innovative strategies, new technologies, you'll work with internal and external stakeholders to maximise their impact and mitigate any potential risks.

Ensuring our network is reliable and resilient is a key element of designing power systems. You'll be responsible for overseeing and challenging all relevant existing practices, procedures, codes, and regulations to enable our approach to designing future networks, ensuring that our plans are supported by high quality technical analysis and documentation.

This role is based out of our offices in Warwick and can be combined with hybrid working from home.

    What you'll need

You'll have commercial acumen and an understanding of the regulatory and financial environment in which energy networks operate. You will have an in-depth knowledge of high voltage electricity networks, including; their safe and compliant design, associated power system analysis, constituent assets, delivery, operation and evolution through new technology and design approaches. In addition, you'll have a thorough knowledge of project development issues involved in the planning of networks.

We are looking for someone with proven leadership capability within a technical team, that has a track record of co-creation and rational decision making of complex multidisciplinary, multi-stakeholder environments. To do this, you must have the ability to build positive relationships at a senior level across organisations and have experience of leading professional engineering teams to drive forward projects within network investment areas.

You'll be qualified to degree standard in a STEM subject, and you'll also have chartered engineering status.

You'll get 28 days annual leave plus statutory holidays.

You'll get a bonus based on both individual and company performance, worth up to 20% of your salary.
